Despite Pikachu being considered overrated because of his mascot and iconic appeal I can't hate Pikachu for that reason. In fact, if it wasn't for Pikachu being so freaking adorable I would have never liked the franchise as much or as long since I have been playing since Red and Blue came out. And I wouldn't have the love of video games as an adult because I never would have been introduced to the RPG genre because up until Pokemon I had only played platformers and was a Sega fangirl who hated Nintendo and Mario. Pokemon is what influenced me to cave and purchase the "inferior non-color/backlit" Gameboy Pocket and I haven't looked back since.

Can I be honest? I'm actually happy Pikachu got to be the mascot of the Pokemon Franchise. He has a simple design but what I love about it despite that fact, he manages to pull the look off very well and can be loved by both males and females. This is also 1 of the reasons I have strong sympathy for Raichu. To me Raichu is like the Luigi of Pokemon, he's popular but he's greatly overshadowed by his mascot counter-part. This is why I was so happy to see Raichu get some love in Generation 7 by not only giving it an Alolan Form, but also it's own Z-Move. However, despite my sympathy for Raichu, I still say Pikachu deserves to be the mascot of the franchise, my only wish for the little guy is I kinda wish he was better in competitive play, I wouldn't even mess with his offensive stats because with Light Ball he's very strong to begin with but I wish he was abit faster. Good video as always Hoops, love your stuff.

Aaron Gonzalez Nah. Raichu is similar to Luigi in that it's a taller, different colored version of the main character that is related to it but largely overshadowed due to the main character's success. Everyone loves Eevee just as much of even more than Pikachu

I'm happy that the supposed mystery Gym leader didn't happen either. He almost looks like Quasimodo to me. I'm not sure it would have been as devastating to fans as this guy thinks, since he would've been with Ash from the beginning of the anime, meaning that either Brock or Misty wouldn't be with him, and fans wouldn't be familiar with Brock and Misty traveling with Ash at all. People would've grown attached to this ugly short dude rather than the one who didn't appear with Ash.

here is some more info on clefairy. it was suppost to be the maskot like he said but instead went with pikachu. the clefairy was going to be able to talk but they gave that ability to meowth instead of clefairy. i dont know why they scratched clefairy but in my opinion pikachu is a good maskot

Pokemon Silver was my introduction to the Pokemon series. I loved the Kanto post game area. What I want to see in a future Pokemon title is the ability to pick one of the regions to start in, and then travel to the other regions, and extra islands like Sevii Islands, as part of the game/post game.

I did not know that part about the data compression for Gen II. Major thanks to Satoru Iwata for his efforts. And thank you for an informative video. If Clefairy had been chosen for the mascot position, I think the whole thing would've flopped since America sees the color pink as feminine and Pokémon would be viewed as a franchise that would only appeal to girls. Not saying I've got issues with pink, but cultural values differ between countries. That and the gender ratio for Clefairy is predominantly female.

One scenario that would be interesting is what would happen if Pokémon Yellow wasn't made; just like Dookieshed theorised (and that I can relate to), the game was an attempt to introduce the games to newer fans who had only been watching the anime, so would the fanbase be as big if Pokémon Yellow was never made?

For example, for the creation of the comics and the TV cartoon, Pippi and Pikachu were chosen as the main Pokémon respectively. Neither Pippi nor Pikachu was a main character in the original Game Boy software. Pippi (in English, Clefairy) was selected as the main Pokémon character to make the comic book series more "engaging." However, in order to attract younger and female viewers as well as their mothers, Pikachu replaced Pippi as the central character when the Pokémon TV series was introduced in 1997. The pink Pippi was replaced by the yellow, cuddlier Pikachu, whom the producers believed would seem like a more familiar and intimate pet to child viewers. I think that Eevee should be the Pokemon mascot because pokemon is all about evolution, changing and growing with your environment. Plus Eevee is gender neutral too

Pheonix Fire Telling the truth eevee is a mascot because eevee has a lot of concepts and is never really forgotten. Heck Eevee is still in the pokemon shuffle title screen. That is saying something. I think Pikachu is a little better mascot for some strange reason cause I can't see Pokémon without pikachu... but hey they both will make a better mascot then the clefairy in the manga. i remember hearing about 2 of these facts and trivia answers before i think it was around 2013 at the time that originally there was only going to be the Johto region for the original Pokemon gold silver and crystal games until that great man,before he became CEO and president of nintendo Satora Iwata ended uo adding the kanto region to get more replay value out of the gen 2 games !^_^rip to that man he will always be remembered!!!=].Also that other fact and trivia information about clefairy that was originally going to be the mascot for the entire pokemon franchise and to be honesy bro , i really wouldn't of had a problem with that since back in gen 1 and 2 and even the gen 1 remakes for firered and leafgreen games were made , i always ended up having a level 100 Clefable to destroy the elite 4 and rival at the end of those game ,but didnt for gen 4 for diamond and pearl cause i was too fixated on completing the national dex at that time ,even though clefairu was avalible for that game i wanted to give the back then brand new gen 4 sinnoh pokemon some love and attention more, then i got a another clefairy and evolved it again into a clefable later on but i went up to around lv. 70 or 80 something that time around. lolz then in gen 6 raised 1 up in oras but it was a shiny clefairy that time and got shiny clefable at that time for the 1st time and lolz made it as my go 2 pokemon ,Then one last time in sun and moon when i trained it up to 100 but was the hardest clefable to train up to 100 since you couldnt rematch and battle trainers again.but thw other 3 facts and trivia were brand new to me hoops ,great video content as always peace

What really changed Pokemon was Sun and Moon. Edit: To all that haters out there who say Sun and Moon was crap and how Gen I is the best, that's great. It's your opinion.
