I had an R & R with an editor I did a mentorship class with. After the 2nd round, she decided not to make an offer. There were changes she thought might fit, but I didn't want to go in that direction. Luckily she understood and offered to look at other work whenever I'm ready. I needed to know in advance what parts of my story I felt strongly should be there.

Love this! I’ve also heard that editors are starting to do R&Rs for books on sub…what are your thoughts on that?
@zebibabrАй бұрын
this happened to me...I did the R&R and it made the book overall more marketable and well-paced...it's too soon to know if it worked out! I also submitted the new version to other new editors

@@zebibabr I hope it works out! I just feel like it's such a bummer to do an R&R after already revising with an agent and getting that far into the process x'D I'm currently on sub and kinda dreading that happening to me

@@IreensBeans for me, it was okay because I work fast, and it had been so many months, and I realized that its really tough out there so wanted to do anything to increase chances. And then you can take that version to a bunch of other editors. Unfortunately it is very common to not sell your first. second, or third book to editors even with an agent, and its good to know that and go in flexible...and thank you for the kind wishes!!!

@@IreensBeans also one more thing... I finished and completed a different book, submitted that to edtiors, before revisiting that R & R like 6 months later😅

If you do the revisions for an R&R, do you have to wait for the agent to be open again to resubmit?

When you reject a manuscript, does it still have a chance at R&R or it's rejected period full stop?
@elissahuntАй бұрын
My understanding is that a rejection is a rejection. Move on to another agent. An R&R is a specific request to revise the manuscript following suggestions from the agent.

What percentage of R&Rs do you accept?
@rowan7929Ай бұрын
Have done this with an older work. Even added more chapters and huge changes throughout the book, but sadly, still no bites. One agent said she loved nearly everything about it but pointed out why she didn't accept it. After I addressed her feedback, I resubmit it again to her. She sadly still rejected it by stating that she couldn't connect with the story but pointed the changes I've addressed. Was really frustrated and disheartened reading her reasons why she still didn't accept it after I addressed her feedback.

Same thing happened to me. Agent was excited but had SO many changes that it was almost a different book. I thought a lot about it and spent 4 months revising. I couldn't make all the changes and tried to stay true to the book. I think it was a better book but she still rejected it without a lot of detail saying that I didn't quite address all the changes she talked about. She also said that publishing was subjective and it seemed like our editorial vision wasn't the same. I still feel bad because she was a very seasoned agent I'd like to have worked with.

@@evelynkrieger6115 My condolences. I queried her later with a new book, but sadly she gave me a form rejection.
