I have not ignored healthcare costs, but your "not one and done" comment rings true in that I was looking at a monthly cost of a health plan only. Though, most common prescription, doctor visits, and typical OTC type things were included elsewhere, I did not factor in other random more costly health events specifically. One of the downsides of looking at the last couple years of living expenses and extrapolating out. Thanks.

Hearing the smile curve advise from folks in their 70’s and 80’s. Would like to learn more about LTC needs and possibilities. Ty.

Without doubt, the most impactful thing that can be done related to healthcare costs is to look after one's health. It is curious, and sad, to see the elephant in the room ignored. As the CFP industry slowly transitions to the ideas of quality of life in retirement, they really do need to embrace this truth: money is a very poor substitute for health and vitality, and what is lost cannot to a large degree be regained. Spend money to maintain health and mental acuity, and to stay fit, slim and active. It is much cheaper and vastly more enjoyable than paying for drugs to avoid demise or for someone to change the diapers.

The couple you mentioned that downsized and moved to be closer to good walking trails sounds like our plan! 5-6 years away from retirement! Trying to research such locations. Any suggestions on videos addressing retirement locations? Im sure there are plenty out there, a short list to check out would be nice!

Nick, I think it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on long term custodial care planning. (the chances of actually needing care long term, not just the times when folks are in short term for rehab, or getting in home assistance)

When people see that spending smile, the sedentary years, how do they feel about that? My father in law says all his friends are dead, he has no hobbies, can't volunteer... Was it Highlander or Blade Runner where they said it was better to burn out than to fade away? Makes me ponder... , then want to work out to avoid the smiles dip. Is the future a movie that I watch from a rocking chair? Schlitz and ramen guy

It’s true. The hard part about life is that we stare down the fact that we slow down and break down :(. The best we can do is embrace each day /week and year.
