If Ika is using her credit cards and her name is on her credit card and you guys names are on separate accounts, then that piece of mail is open only by Ika, and Ika is responsible for paying her own bill. Vice versa. Now if the credit cards are in one account, and both of you guys names are on as joint, then yes. I agree Demitre has the right to open because your both making purchases on one account. If the house hold bills like mortgage and utilities, car note bills should be split down the middle. This way nobody's credit is not ruined and your each are being responsible for your own purchases. Now surprised gifts for one another is different. I understand how Demitres is thinking about realestate investments down the future, but this way Demitre you don't come off controlling. The last thing you both want is to break up over opening up someones mail right or wrong. If push comes to shove, seek couples counseling. Ika specifically said and Dem agreed, that she pays for it with HER MONEY. It'd have been different if they were joint bills or things paid for with his money. Any way you spin this, it is an invasion of privacy if the other person clearly lets you know they don't like it. I do agree with you that women who grow up without a father tend to have a harder time giving up control of certain aspects of their lives or even letting men in and including them. However, said inclusion cannot be forced, it'll only make them resist. This is why communication is so important. Building a foundation shouldn't involve taking choices away from your partner by making decisions for them without their input. If someone tells you specifically that they don't want you opening their mail, especially when you're not the one paying for it, you should take heed.

I live in a traditional african household were we follow customes one thing my parents don’t do it open each other’s mails even my mails they give them to me and i open them they don’t open for me. If there are things they have to share from that mail like bills etc they will talk to each other and communicate that’s the whole point of communication.
