Besides that, it might just as well also be a bit of a fossile. In most inter-city train wagons, the doors still had handles, well trough the 90's and into the early 2000's. And when the new trains were developed, these were just replaced by electronic handles instead of getting rid of them altogether.

Most likely it's more like "Hello, university, would you like to earn a few extra bucks by allowing us to install this vibrator dispenser in your toilets?" Same with these things and condom dispensers in rest stops - you don't typically buy them as an owner, you get money to allow a company to install them, so they can sell to your customers.

I find the sauna helpful in terms of body feeling or my own body image. I went to the sauna with a friend and was worried because of weight and made sure I am cleanly shaved. And there was this elderly couple, she was heavier then I am and both were wrinkled. And both were chatting and had a good time. I was first baffeld and later impressed by them. It even helped me to relaxe and enjoy the sauna more. No one starres, no one judges, everyone just wants to relaxe.

It really is very helpful in that regard. I started going to the sauna with my dad as young as 11 or 12, and I think that helped me to sustain a pretty confident self image through the difficult time of puperty. I'm convinced it was important for me, especially as a girl, to see that there is a great variety of body forms, not only photoshopped supermodels. Damn! Talking about it made me realize, how much I miss the sauna 😔

Here I am German living in South Korea doing like you said saved and went to sauna...well just to learn that apparently only prostitutes (at least that's what I was told) shave their pubic hair (we had a good laugh:-) ...I must say I enjoy korean sauna more than German one where only the women only section is nude and in the mixed section you cover up.

@@catonkybord7950 Same! I miss the Sauna so much! 😭 Also I agree with you on what you said about seeing the variety and how it can help with sustaining a confident self image. For me it was actually even more "drastic", I kinda grew up on FKK Campsites. Like, since I was about 4 years old I went camping with my grandparents pretty much every year on an FKK campsite. My older siblings also came along, my uncle as well and later on also some of my cousins. And with my parents I also often went to those campsites. It's still a little strange when you get there and the first thing you do is get rid of the clothes that usually seem like such an important part of your life, but as soon as you get used to it it's just... freeing. And I really believe this helped me grow to be a pretty positive person with a healthy level of confidence.

Going to the Sauna does help me too with my body image. I really struggle with myself, my body image and the general feel for it. But being in the Sauna where everyone is so relaxed and not caring about how they look helps me relax and to not think about what others may think when they see me. I think that's a positive thing on top of the warm relaxation of Sauna.

In Germany (and most of Europe, I believe), nudity is not viewed as _inherently_ sexual; the two are not as intrinsically linked here as in the States. Thus even cultures that are conservative about sex can be okay with nudity in non-sexual contexts.

The difference between american and german nudity is that american nudity is sexualized and more wide spread and the few people who dont wiggle their bums at everyone regard that as a tabu. Whereas german nudity is something austere and prosaic and not all that special.

Exactly! Its so strange to see american prudity in scenes that are....not prude? Like in movies wheren in "sex-scenes" tey lay under the blanket with bra and tshirt on.....come on really? Afraid of male nipples? Even as a kid seeing in movies an adult woman in a movie (hieppy) stand out of bed completely naked seeing EVERYTHING was not something special. I mean I knew that women had breasts and everything else. Just a human body nothing to be ashamed of. And then came american movies and I was so confused why women wore their bras while sex I mean come on Im a dude but I know when your home you just wanna rip these hellish things off and of course not wanna wear them while having sex. And there is something strange when a (at that time in puberty) boy sees a sex scene in a movie and while looking at the girls boobs just thinks "why has she her bra on? Isnt that uncomfortable? What do americans do in bed that she has her bra on? Why has the dude his shirt on? Do americans only have sex naked when they are married?"

A friend of mine (german) visited africa and stayed at a host family who had a newborn. They had another guest from America. He always freaked out as soon as the mother started breast feeding and even suggested to buy them formula so they will stop. Because he was able to glimpse her nipple. The mom gave him a tip to protect himself of the sight: just don't stare at her cleavage when she starts to feed the baby. Much cheaper for him and she would feel more comfortable as well. He locked himself in his room for hours after that. Hope his view was not representative of all americans.

The nudity thing is a classic. I´ve watched content by other US-KZbinrs living in Germany and it is always shocking to them. I think it is somehow strange. If you look at some american pop singers or something like that, it is so sexualised that I don´t understand why the european nudity (not just German) is so surprising. I would have a bigger problem with a daughter in a short dress as a cheerleader at a football game comparing to her being on a FKK-beach.

Bit of a sidetrack here, but ever watch Married at first sight? In the Belgian, Dutch, Australian and New Zealander versions most of the couples either don't have sex before the decision day or they have sex days or weeks after the wedding. In the US version, sex is expected, if not on the wedding night than definitely in the first week. And those that don't have sex in the first week are treated as freaks. Also, when the couples meet, sex is always a prime, if not the main, topic of conversation. But if Janet Jackson shows a single nipple the entire country goes up in flames. The US is SO weird about sex.

What gets me in the US is how common the wearing of leggings everywhere, has become. It's not under a tunic or anything. And some leggings are a little see through and revealing. These legging leave nothing to the imagination and some people should NOT be letting it all hang out. It is not flattering. When I went to Copenhagen many years ago I saw the nude sunbathers. It was not that shocking once you got used to the idea that it was a thing. My poor lily white butt can't take that much sun. I'd get blisters...ouch! I think Europeans have a healthier attitude about the human body but I do think wearing appropriate clothes for school and work is important. Leggings are for exercise or under something. It's hard enough to get high school boys to do their work and I don't need to see the outline of your pubs and butt crack. Also wear what flatters your body. Leaving alittle mystery is sexier in my opinion. I also think that the US feak out about the human body is thanks to the Pilgrims. They were really uptight and intolerant. I think our working all the time and not taking vacation have roots in the strong religious foundation of the country too. We were founded by zealots and it shows, prudes with secret fantasies and lusts.

@@katmandudawn8417 sorry but if I get you right you should wear something flattering and leaving room for imagination because it is sexier yet again not look in a way that might distract those poor boys from their schoolwork…you are talking of (female) bodies as if they were objects or accessoires of everyday life for anybody to judge - people should wear whatever feels good to them and be respected for that!

Ok, the vibrator one is also news to me! In the guys' lavatories, you tend to see condom dispensers and that's it. I think the idea is that the cinema is a common place for dates and many dates end up with having fun back home. It's so fascinating that sex and nudity is such a taboo in America while everything is sexualised. In Germany, nude people are just ... nude. The body itself isn't inherently sexualised. But I've read a lot about the American discussions on things like this (i.e. breastfeeding) and it never stops to fascinate me. I love insights from foreigners who come to Germany. It's easier to learn about a different culture to have someone call out the things that seem normal to you. I never would have thought about simple stuff like door buttons on trains!

Depending on where you are, the condom vending machine can carry a number of different things as well. At IKEA, they sell a toothbrush set, on various other locations (including malls) two different kinds of vibrators (one to be used as a stand-alone toy, one in ring form), an inflatable masturbation device, but also desinfection tissues, or a tiny bottle of mouthwash. I don't visit public bathrooms that often, so I guess there are more options.

Thank you for the lovely video. I think one of the earliest reports of a foreign visitor being shocked by German attitudes towards nudity is Julius Cesar. When he was fighting his way up north and conquering barbarian lands, he was shocked that in Germanic tribes, men and women would bath together in the river naked. He was "clutching his pearls" so to speak until he discovered that for these people, nakedness had no sexual connotation in this context. He learned from one of the tribes, that they expected men to be in control of their bodies and not show arousal when bathing next to a beautiful naked girl (morals were and are still helped by the fact that the climate is rather cold). It's all described in his book De Bello Gallico written 50 BC. He used the trope of the noble savages who are intrinsically moral to an extent that they renders nudity asexual. And there is some truth to it. When some Americans come to a German sauna or a Scandinavian sauna, they make the experience uncomfortable for everyone, because they are so conscious of their own nakedness. Relax. Nudity is a state of mind.

I came home from Germany with a love for Schnitzel (I make it with chicken) I found the urban-ness of Berlin difficult to adjust to, felt more comfortable in Bavaria and we were on an educational tour but the lunchmeat and dinner rolls for breakfast and no eggs? Did not like that AT ALL!! HOWEVER what I did enjoy of my tour is the OPEN-NESS of explaining the events of WW2+Hitler and their transparency in every aspect of their government and culture which is a shocking contrast to ours we deny+brush under the rug

may I just add my 5 cents? "Schnitzel" originated from Vienna and it is a thin piece of meat, cut from a leg of veal, covered in breading and fried in pure butter. There is not such a thing like a "Schnitzel of chicken". That would be a fried chicken or >BrathendlPizza Neapolitana< and the travesty "pizza" sold in Chicago.

I spent several years in Germany while serving in the U.S. Army, and I absolutely loved it there. You very quickly get used to a lot of these cultural differences and learn to actually embrace them. Germany is very pet friendly. You can pretty much take your dog anywhere (to include most restaurants). Religious buildings are one of the few exceptions. You also see things like cigarette vending machines, beer in McDonalds, outdoor beer gardens all over the place, and Mercedes Benz taxi cabs. It’s a wonderful country, and I encourage a visit there if you are able.

Safety first, a condom will protect you and will help you maybe after the movie. So nobody has the excuse the say that there was not an option to get one. This is my first time seeing your channel but I do find it entertaining because this is what I had experienced when I did my study abroad in the Czech Republic in 1994, especially with the item of nudity; nudity was everywhere but you can't watch an old school kung-fu flick as violence in any media is banned. One of the items that I appreciated getting better at was the nudity. After school was over, I went to see my brother at a U.S. military base in southern Germany, where I worked with his brother at a Rotweise (sp?). When I would leave his place in the late mornings, I would say "HI" to the neighbor who was always in a chair in her yard, though the back of her lounge chair faced me. After a week or so, I actually 'saw her' nude and turned away; she promptly stopped me, asked WHY did I look away, and stated that we from the U.S. were wrong for our views on nudity, as well as violence. She also vowed that everyday we will have a conversation with her being nude, so I can get 'passed' my issues with this.

Love the idea of the animal park; a way of integrating nature and animals in every day life. I am reflecting on the nudity topic. I think perhaps the difference is that some cultures have, like the Germans, a healthier relationship with nudity where it is not sexualized. You used the term conservative with respect to the US, however, what I observe about the US and many other countries is not conservatism because in these same cultures, the media and entertainment industries are highly sexualized around nudity and I believe that is a key difference.

Last summer I saw an old man bathing, I think in the 80s, with support stockings and thong (String Tanga)! Naked would have been better.😂

But the dispenser make so much sense. Isn't going to the movies a typical date thing? The date is fun, one invites the others back home, quick way to get protection ^^

We have animal Parcs in holland. I live i a small village and we have a small one mostly goats and chickens. But still. It's fun for kids and adults aswell. You can feed them leftover bread.

We had egg cups when I was growing up in the '50s and '60s but most people don't eat boiled eggs these days. Amazon has quite a few but I seldom go into a cooking supply store to know if they're still around in retail.

Watching this video as a German is so fascinating! All these things I'd never see as special or standing out before. :D But how on earth do you eat a running egg *without* an Eierbecher?! Wouldn't this end up in a total mess of having egg everywhere?

@@KendraAshanti It's not that people have sex in the movie theater although some definetly will (phantasies and stuff) but movie theaters are often a place you go for a date, and if you ended up kissing during the movie and decided to gome home with someone or someone with you, it comes handy if you can buy a condome if you don't have one. This is to prevent people from risking HIV or pregnancy just because they didn't plan ahead and have none. You will also find these vending machines in Discos/Clubs, "Keipen"/Pubs, trainstations or even in some parks, which does not mean sex in public is legal, but as people do anyways its better they are protected.

If you think the Eierbecher are cute, look up Eierwärmer (careful, that also has a second meaning-). They are little crochet hats you put on the eggs when they sit on Eierbecher to keep them warm. They are usually only used at special occasions though. Family bunches where the food might sit for a while because everyone is talking

You mention the train button, I can remember being in the position where I was the last person who could get into the carriage of the train I was on. About 30 seconds after the door closes behind me, but before the train moves off(thank you train timetables) this woman who was clearly able to see the train carriage was full, presses the button and amounts to be let in. Three separate people had to tell her the carriage is obviously full, move to the next door. Every time we press the button to close the door again, she will simply open it and demand that one of us let her in. One of many reasons why I don't like dealing with drunk tourists.

Japan actually has people to push more people into the train to fit as many people as possible. I've heard that they push them in so tightly that some people's feet aren't even touching the ground because they're held up by the people shoved against them. It sounds like a nightmare to me.
