I used to run in the Michters Mash Dash every year back in my younger days. It started at the original distillery in PA.

How much of Michter's bottlings are sourced bourbon/rye? Their US1 bourbon still only says it was bottles by them, no word on who actually distilled it.

They offically started putting white dog into barrels in Aug. of 2015, so the 10 year stuff won't be there's for a few more years at least.

Great video very informative thank you. All those items I never knew I’m from Michigan. There’s some nice distilleries here to come check out. One in particular is called Ironfish distilleries in Thompsonville Michigan.

I really really like the idea of this series. Definitely make more. But give us nerds some more dirt. Most of this was Wikipedia first paragraph stuff… but maybe I’m missing the the point. Either way big fan keep it up!

BTW some Wilderness Trail rye enters the barrel at 100 proof, so technically they have the lowest barrel entry proof.

Does anybody know which bourbon distilleries use air-dried barrels, and which use the kiln-dried barrels? On Ralfy's channel the claim has often been made that air-dried is much better, but more expensive.
@ItsBourbonNight
@ItsBourbonNight Жыл бұрын
I would say all the big distilleries use air dried barrels, but the amount of time used to air dry can vary a lot. I think around 6 months is the standard, but then you have some places that will do it a minimum of 18 months.

Hmm, I thought Woodford Doubled Oaked was the first toasted bourbon.
@ItsBourbonNight
@ItsBourbonNight Жыл бұрын
I think Woodford D.O. is just a double barreled bourbon, so from one charred barrel into another charred barrel. With Michter's, it goes from a toasted and charred barrel into a toasted only barrel.

Very interesting, but if it’s Michael+Peter I wonder why it’s not pronounced “Mike-ter’s”

Really? Michters name comes from Michael / Peter combo. I gotta say I’m a bit disappointed. I was expecting something like Joseph Michter, descendent from the Weller family. 😅
