I didn't mind the ending, because the show was Always about the Leap. So the idea of Sam continuing Leaping makes sense. Similar to the last ep of Sliders; it ends with the unknown Slide, which is what the show was always about.

Quantum Leap is one of the best shows, I was 9-13yrs when it aired. Always remember our Maths teacher at school loved the show, the lesson was soon forgotten about if we mentioned Quantum Leap. This video came out in 2021, but the new series is set to debut this fall. Did he miss an announcement? As to Sam, I feel he should be in the role of god/bartender. They were always wondering who was leaping him about, and the guy said "you." So maybe he's in a position to help his past self, as the rules seemed to change. How did Ziggy know in the pilot that he had to help someone in order to leap out? Perhaps in the first go-through nothing worked right and he had a low success rate, then by somehow helping himself he scored 90%, which is what we saw, though it still took him 3 tries to solve "Trilogy."

This show in the 80s was to me what Star Trek was in the 60s, a very entertaining point of imaginative departure and emotional inspiration. BTW, as to Dean’s cigar ploy, that’s hysterical. Good for him. This was one of the great shows of its day and not as popular as it should have been. I am struck by its similarity in that sense to St. Elsewhere, another personal favorite and contemporary on NBC that also had a finale people gripe about. I personally loved the ending (of both) as it was. Too many people want happy endings and closed loops. It’s simplistic to think Sam should get his wish to go home and be happy. The way I see it, that’s not and never was the purpose of his life. He was here for a reason that mattered, to make a real difference to others. Too many fans just want simple fairy tales, not life. They often just want easy and settle for nothing of importance. That final episode, grounded on the day of Sam’s birth and extended beyond all definition of time, has a wistful touch of the infinite. The mystery of the bartender, played brilliantly by Bruce McGill, is exactly the right touch. There is a profound message in that last episode, and too many don’t wish to take the risk to make that particular leap.

Quantum Leap is one of my all-time favorite shows. I never understood why the ratings were not higher or why the network was not really supportive of the show. I remember when it struggled to stay on when it was being aired every evening. I suppose it was their way of trying to get more viewers. It is hard to define a favorite episode although the "evil leaper" episodes were very memorable. Although I suppose Mirror Image was one that really got to me the most. A great series and a great cast. I doubt Dean Stockwell at 85 years old might not be able to return.. It is funny though that I do see Sam as continuing to leap now "out of his own lifetime" having been a Captain of the NX-01 Enterprise and now a policeman. But that's just me.

There is rehearsal footage of the cliffhanger ending. The sixth season plan was that Sam started leaping into the future and that to finally rescue him, Al (reunited with his wife in a new timeline caused by Sam) had to leap too. Not only did Stockwell guest star on Enterprise and NCIS New Orleans, I like to think they made a reference to Al in the second last season of NCIS New Orleans. Bakula’s character is haunted by visions of a man in a red suit (I won’t spoil it for you). I like to think that was a sly nod to Stockwell who I think by then was dealing with health issues that forced him into retirement.

I would LOVE to see a reunion. It seemed in the final episode that Sam more or less chose not to go home, realizing that he had a greater calling in life. I would love to see that he was leaping, lost without Al but somehow the reunion episode or movie or season could focus on Al trying to find and bring Sam back to their present which would still be in the future for us. Maybe when Sam changed time so Al's first wife Beth would wait for him, Al never met Sam. This meant Sam was leaping alone but with memories of the old time line and a Swiss cheese brain and somehow Al has residual memories of his assistance as Sam's hologram... My favorite Episode was "Catch a Falling Star". With the ending and having all the crew up on stage I still try to find out if they actually performed Man of La Mancha for an audience with having actors like John Cullum (1776) and his Co Start from Northern Exposure Janine Turner in it. I just never saw a TV show end like that without some kind of reason. My least favorite was the Series finale, unless they bring back the group to do a movie and make up for that flop.

For the longest time I didn't like the ending because I was idealistic and I felt like Sam had put his time in and should get the reward, but now I appreciate how real it is in that just isn't how things work most of the time.

NBC has picked up its first pilot-to-series order for the 2022-2023 season as the Raymond Lee-starring Quantum Leap reboot is given the green light. Based on the original sci-fi series created by Donald P. Bellisario, this updated version takes place 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has come together to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.

He is "alive and kicking" at the age of 84 (he was born in 1936). Yes, if they would have any plans in using him, they'd better do so quickly.

I could see Scott Bakula maybe playing in this new show if it was continuation. However Dean I'm sorry to say how that he couldn't do it. on one of the last interviews they had with him and Scott Comic-Con you could tell Dean was really out of it. I would rather see maybe two hour movie Sam leaps home and his child takes his place. if he doesn't want to leap home like said it last episode said Sam never leaps home his child goes and tries to find him that could be a new series or a continuation. My favorite episodes were the evil leaper one more season would have been great to see it finish whatever happened to the girl leaper for closer.

At the time, in South Africa, we didn't have many options with our very limited choice from our only TV provider, the national, government-controlled, South African Broadcasting Corporation. Quantum Leap was a great concept and I got excited about the show - but soon, I found that the stories were full of fatal flaws, quite unimaginative, and relied on stupid limitations, such as absurdly "partial" amnesia, to make the stories "work". I can't think of a single episode that stands out. I usually found the episodes where Bakula acted as a woman, really pathetic. I don't think we were shown all the seasons. Today, I read about S5E1, with Beckett taking the place of Lee Harvey Oswald - and it seems interesting - but I can't find the episode online (which is how I found this post). I don't think that I care very much if I never find it. Bakula tried hard to be convincing - but I absolutely DESPISED Stockwell's character of Al - what an unfunny idiot!

The series finale would have been a great new jump start to a renewal of a few more seasons. Sam started and kept leaping for seasons on others body's while the other body's were in the wait chamber. New story is Sam starts leaping as himself and not in others body's. Everything gets really tricky then. And that builds viewers. Unlike say the walking dead with the same story's over and over as shit soap operas go. This show is still adventure. As was sliders until producers took over to make it action only.
