I miss my time in UC Davis. Davis is a small town but it feels like a college town because most people you see in downtown Davis are mainly students. It's nice to sit in a cafe and see mainly students.

I loved Davis! Alum C/O 2014. Still think about my experience there daily. Wasn't a super academic person, but whatever. Also, if you work for Unitrans, your experience will be more amazing!

Hi Aurora! First of all, congrats for getting in! Second of all, I don't think the major is as small as you might think! It may not be as popular as something like bio sci or psychology at Davis, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing! :)

I, too, went to UC Davis to become an elementary school teacher and my major was English. I soon got frustrated with how subjective the grading in my English classes was. I switched to Child Development which morphed into Human Development. Best decision that I ever made! My best UC Davis experience was working at the campus Pre-School which was part of one of my Human Development classes.

I got waitlisted for Davis, but I hope I get accepted. Also question are these classes major locked sort of like UC Irvine? Since I heard at Irvine a man couldn't take a theater class for fun because his major was computer science.

Hi! As far as I know, general classes aren't always specific to certain majors. However, due to limited space, some classes only allow major students to sign up during what we call first pass (which is when you register for classes). However, there is a second pass when other students may sign up usually (but not always). Another case where someone may not be able to take a class is due to prerequisites. For example, as a bio major, there is often at least one class I need to take before signing up for another one. A broad example of this is that I needed to take and pass general chemistry and some general bio classes before taking some upper division ones. Hopefully this made sense! @@normadelia5252 I got a $30,000 regents scholarship. (It comes with priority registration and library privileges) It’s that and I have a Pell grant because of financial aid. I’d have him look through his FASFA and budget it out! That was a merit scholarship so you don’t apply to it, they award it based on your application. But I’d have him apply to as many other scholarships as he can!!

If you can barely handle 15 units at a junior college, a Cal State school is way better and references are easy to get if you can make a good impression on your professors.

Do people have their job at Davis or near it after they graduate or do they move to other parts of California since I know that Davis does not have many work offices compared to Irvine or San Diego?

Hi! I think a lot of people leave Davis and move to other parts of California (or other places) when they graduate. Popular spots to move to after are for sure the Bay Area and San Diego though due to many biotech and tech companies in these places :)

Hey! Lots of students at Davis start out as pre-med and then decide to change career paths. I couldn't give you exact numbers but from my experience, a lot of students at Davis studying bio are pre-med at some point in their college career. I would say yes, it's difficult, but I imagine being pre-med would be challenging at any school.

For a more concrete response, I highly suggest looking at the actual numbers, but imo, Davis is pretty safe! But it depends on a lot of things, one being where you come from when comparing Davis on safety levels...

@mother toothfairy My daughter completed her undergrad there & is now in their Vet Med School. She considers it to be safe, but is aware of her surroundings & careful. We’re from Los Angeles so Davis is smaller & friendlier overall. I’m even considering moving up there.

Hi! I think it depends on the person! I loved living on campus (proximity to classes, friends, etc.) but I knew a lot of people who preferred living off campus

I’m planning on going to Davis as well, living on campus is more expensive but closer to classes while living off campus in an apartment is less expensive but transportation is always offered.

Congrats on getting into all those schools! I think it would be beneficial to talk to people from each school and hear what they have to say. Ask about things you are interested in for a school and see which one is the best fit for you!

I’m a former Aggie from many years ago but am familiar with all 3 schools and their reps from not only my days but now from my grown daughters and their friends. First it’s a no brainer to choose a UC over a CSU, unless cost is an issue. Second, Santa Cruz is considered a very granola or hippy haven (or whatever they’re called nowadays). There are also no letter grades. So it’s just an odd place to most outsiders. Davis is the clear choice for getting respect when you say where you’re going (example: my first real job interview after college was all the way in LA, and when the boss read my resume, the first thing he said was “Wow, you graduated from UC Davis?!” I immediately got the job. Also in terms of tradition and college town feel, it can’t be beat. Good luck in your decision.

@@d.dickerson3056 Davis doesn’t have a veterinary medicine major, but choosing a major that fulfills the prevet requirements for their vet school will work. Most stem/bio majors fulfill most of these requirements, and the big thing u should focus on is finding hands on opportunities with animals through internships and volunteering with the animals at davis

Very gentle most of the year around. Although super hot in middle of Summer. Have umbrellas and rain jacket for quite a lot of rain, Temps run between 45-65/70 during most of the months. Very cool mornings, and warms up as day goes on. So dress in layers.
