You don't really need to let your car come up to temperature just let it idle for a couple of minutes to allow the oil to circulate around your engine this will also allow the bearings of your turbo to get the lubrication they need before you apply load to the turbo. The best way to get your car up to temperature is to drive it at a slow to moderate speed and don't accelerate hard straight away. He does have a point with letting your car idle before you turn it off. Another tip to make sure your engine and turbo last longer is keep your car maintained and serviced regularly. Change the oil and filter every 5 to 7 thousand kms and ypu won't have a problem.

Driving your engine cold increases blow by and fuel diluting the oil. Increased crank case pressure and then EGR can block up your inlet, turbo and valves with caked soot.

What oil you should use varies. Check the owners manual for what your car wants. Mine for an example is a petrol 5cyl engine and wants 0w-30. Last owner ran 5w-40 cheap oil and the engine is now damaged because of it. Please check the owners manual and use what the manufacturer recommends for your car.

Hey, I have a Mercedes E200 with EQ boost (197hp) and after tuning, when flooring it in sport or sport+ sometimes after a few kickdowns, my turbo doesn’t give power anymore and I have to shift up myself manually. I restart the car after 30 sec and all is ok. When we did a diagnosis, the only error was a turbo temperature too high error message. That’s it. How can I fix this? Nobody knows. I use 102 octane fuel and a K&N sportsfilter. Thanks!

Theres a german saying. Turbo läuft, Turbo säuft. Which roughly translates to if the Turbo is running the engine is just eating fuel. Just recently read a study on turbo chargers. Especially small 1 to 1.5 litre boosted engines consume significantly more fuel in longer high load scenarios like on the highway. To compensate so insufficient cooling these engines inject more fuel which they dont burn but use to cool the engine block and the hot side of the tubro charger. The fuel saving aspect only works in city traffic. Additionally since the turbo charged downsizing trend has started engine repairs as well as their costs have increased by quite some margin. One of the reasons why my new car is a Mazda which still uses a naturally aspirated 2 litre 4 cylinder. As it should be for everyday cars I might add.

@BUZDRIFT6 жыл бұрын
No such thing as lugging, turbo will kick in when it does, no matter the rpm. The oil weight is totally false too...its a matter of climate and Clearance.
@CATDOGEMO96 жыл бұрын
all the things he said are wrong haha, only bad side of not letting ur car idle down is the the oil burns and goes hard in the turbo core, water cooled turbos can be turned straight off after use, also you are right "luggying" ur turbo isnt bad either, the reason for your turbo to be spooling when going up a hill in the wrong gear is heat expanding inside the turbine and manifold which spools the turbo. not bad for your turbo, its what they are ment to do.
@BUZDRIFT6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, haha, I was like what is this guy saying, plus i haven't seen a turbo timed car in years!
@lmh-mv3ec6 жыл бұрын
@@BUZDRIFT He didn't elaborate the 1st point as in wait for the engine oil temperature to reach 100° . What does he means? Does he means start the car idle till temperature hits 100° or does he means don't hard rev...confusing it takes about 20mins in asia for temperature to reach 90° even with coasting speed...i wonder whats his trying to say for the 1st pt wait till engine oil heats to 100°???
@BUZDRIFT6 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a hard one to get, we can only speculate what he means, even on a hot day in Australia it take a good 10-15 min to get the water temp up to 90c and 20min on a cold day, I can only imagine in colder climates it would take a long time, you really shouldn't idle the car for extended periods of time as it may cause cylinder wall glazing...You bring up a excellent point Teo Zhili...
@charleszander14335 жыл бұрын
I understand what he meant by lugging. I had an Audi with a larger turbo. If I nailed the throttle at 2300 RPM it would instantly have 29 PSI boost and with that over 300 foot pounds torque. When this was done it had so much torque it made the center differential shutter and you could feel it in the whole car. 3000 RPM and it was unnoticeable. I think it was something like that he was referring to. Hope that helps! Thanks Charlie
@psuedonym83445 жыл бұрын
I always try not to lug the engine but i need helps! I have a Manuel audi. Driving uphill for a length 30 minutes there may or may not be heavy traffic. At start im at 4000RPM to meet second gear @around 2200RPM to catch the gear with out making the car jerk. Any less and the turbo needs to kick in I repeat to 3rd but then at times,depending at what speed (60-70mph), im at 4th gear and 3500rpm to allow the engine and car to move upwareds without having to spool the turbo. If i were to switch to 5th gear, my turbo would kick in to accelerate, or if i let off the pedal to remove any boost, my car stays at the speed or begins to slow down. Is this okay? Can i keep my car at about 3500 rpm to let the car move smoothly uphill for 20+min or should i be at a lower rpm and let the turbo spool? Am i then lugging the engine if i have to make the turbos boost to accelerate and actually harming the car more than just leaving it a a higher rpm? Ive had seen other manuels and it seems like its efficent to at least go @2200RPM when switching gears. But by then the car is screaming to shift by 2200 when my car begins to do same till @5000rpm and includes a turbo..? Ahh! 😆

Question for 99Vehicles - I revved by mistake my 2.0 turbo-diesel BMW F20 to 4000 RPM (soft limit out of 4800max) while the engine had just been started 3 minutes earlier. Ambient temperature was 88 degrees fahrenheit/31celsius and car was in neutral stopped. I imagine the oil would not have been a lot over 100 fahrenheit or around 40 degrees celsius. Did it for around 2 seconds until I realized what was happening (was searching for something in the glovebox and pressed accelerator to the floor by mistake). Did this cause any noticeable harm to the engine?
@MadSnizzik3 жыл бұрын
Highly doubt. The load would have been absolutely minimal being in neutral. And your oil had time to lubricate your bearing

If your vehicle's cooling system is designed properly, and your turbocharger is water cooled, tip #2 is not necessary at all. Coolant will still cycle after the engine turns off due to the thermosiphon effect. This is usually aided by the ECU seeing the coolant temperature is high enough to warrant spinning the radiator fan. The convection current caused by this will cycle coolant through the turbocharger, preventing it from burning up the oil inside.

Let your car war up. Idle 2 to 3 minutes before driving. Drive slow and normal. Untill the oil and water reach 90 degrees celcius. Then you can drive fast and hard. Not before. 90 degrees for oil is optimal. Water should also reach that temp way before then. There is a difference between water temp and oil temp.

One thing to know about diesel engines... all you need to do for a diesel engine is 30 seconds to warm it up so the oil has been sucked to the components it needs lubricated... after that just make sure u drive slowly and keep it around ~1500 RPM BUT NEVER IDLE for too long cause it will take ages to warm up thus increasing wear and ofcourse life span of the engine.

Dont let the car idle too long. The oil gets washed off by petrol if the car idles too long as the pressure of oil differs when driving. So oil will run off and get washed off by petrol if you idle for 5 minutes. Idle 2 to 3 min max! I idle 2 minites. Maybe 3.
