After driving a few outrageous cars, one of them being a 2018 g wagon awd with 566 hp and tq and it was an experience for sure. But it’s useless. I think that 300 hp and tq in a car like this is absolutely more than enough. If you plan on tracking the car then obviously then it makes sense, but for daily driving even my 2020 stock wrx is more than enough.

Good point, I live in Norway 🇳🇴 and own a blobeye STI.. its properly tuned, forged internals, spec-c twinscroll turbo, reversed inlet for even lower turbo lag cuz of less piping.. power? 380 hp. Its built like that to last as long as possible, but that horsepower is more than enough on the street.. I could lose my license in a few snaps of fingertips, and going full throttle.. it doesn't take long before you are already at dangerously high speeds, so yeah.. subies are lightweight and dont really need like 500-600 hp to be fun. You want usable power, not so much power that you cant use.

I really like my '14 STI hatch, but 100% agree on the fact that it is not the right platform for high HP, specially on stock block. I've done my research prior to starting my build, and come to quickly realize that it takes alot to squeeze power of these flat 4 and a comfortable/reliable number is between 350-380 WHP... of course with a $10k+ budget, a built block would get you that and more.

A man of refined taste, I've always said less is more. Here cause I just picked up a 2019 sti! Side note: the car only has 16,000 kms on it and second gear pulls have a couple dead zones in the powerband, feels like a dirty maf im gonna try that. But it also has me worried the dealership put the wrong gas in, feels like the car if pulling timing at higher boost. If anyone has suggestions i'd love to hear em, gonna run out this current tank of gas and put in the good stuff to see if it helps. Car is stock

IAG air/oil separator, and the COBB accessport. I was considering changing out the stock turbo for the COBB 20G turbo but I have a lot of questions still. Great video. Thanks. 😊

I agree with much of what you said. I like more subtle tasteful mods. Different but it looks stock or that is, something Subaru would have done. I see so many mods that really don't do much or even makes the car even slower/worse. (see mighty car mods videos) Cat-back exhaust doesn't do anything if you keep the small stock headers. It's said you need to increase HP by 15-20% in order to feel a difference and be truly faster. That's a 45-60 Hp increase! You will never use it on the street so don't bother unless you do regular track days. Doing any engine/exhaust mods will need to be tuned on a dyno. To make an STI faster takes a crapload of money. The best way to be fast is to sign up for racing school at a local track.

One thing not to do light related is to replace the incandescent reverse lights with regular cheap LEDs. I did that on my '17 STI and it messes up with the rear camera. I ended up getting some Sylvania ultra white incandescent and it works fine now.

I don't have any issues with boost creep. I have an invidia catless downpipe going to an r400 catback. But I also run a Cobb EBCS, sf intake, and an AEM 340lph fuel pump with a pro tune. Without the boost controller, yes, boost creep can become an issue. But if you do it correctly catless is fine.

Other than certain parts of the longblock these Subaru STI's are super tough. I've seen 1000whp cars run multiple seasons on the stock 6 speed. The brakes are bomb, the axles are pretty dang strong, the diffs hold up to a ton of abuse, really is a great platform. Great video and I agree with all your 5 do not things though man, great video.

Disagree. these are incredible cars to build for high hp. High revving can throw all the boost at it. Either more bread or more knowledge for you my friend. Anything can be fast. @@pauloquintana2511 Ummm...that exactly what I said, these cars are great performance cars and with the right mods can make impressive numbers. Mine was making 551whp and 561whtq before I pulled the FP Green for a rotated 6870. I'll have it back together next week and we'll be shooting for low 700s on the stock motor (not for long, a built long block this summer will help push it over 1000whp).

@dylan_lewis9309 3 ай бұрын
@@mr.carguy3161 Yes it is cheaper to build a Honda. Making 900whp with an LS is even cheaper and easier. Sometimes it's not about the most cost effective way to make power. The Boxer 4 cylinder is unique and a really cool driving experience. That's like comparing the I4 in my Honda Fireblade to the V4 in my Ducati Streetfighter. Both make over 200hp but they are radically different in how they make that power and how they feel to operate. Again, my Honda is cheaper to modify because it has one header, one head, one set of cams, etc. while my Ducati has two of everything.

Came here to find 5 things I should never do with a wrx or sti. :Changing the intake without a tune. Excellent. :Putting lights on the front of your car. Personal preference. :Fully venting bov, bad. Don't do this. :Carbon fiber. Personal preference. :Catless exhaust system. Personal preference. But good advice if you aren't getting tuned. I would have liked to hear your thoughts on why with these 5 specific things to never do. 1.Intake without a tune is bad because the ecu needs to know what the new Maf scaling is because the metered air coming into the engine is being changed. Therefore your fuel needs are also changed. 2.Swapping your blow off valve which recirculates the air that has been measured by the Maf is bad. This means that if you vent the air to hear that sweet swish sound it isn't going to mix with the fuel that the maf asked for causing the engine to run rich momentarily. You can get an aftermarket bov that has recirculation function kept in. Go fast bits offers an adjustable bov that allows you to partially vent and also recirculate. All the way to fully venting. 3.Catless downpipe can cause boost creep because you are increasing the flow of exhaust out of the turbo and allowing the turbine to spin more freely. The stock waste gate and boost controller can have a tough time managing this. But that also applies to high flow cat down pipes as well. So it comes down to personal preference. If you change the stock downpipe at all you should be upgrading the boost control solenoid and getting a tune done. 4.Too many lights on the front of your car. While completely personal preference, it can lead to issues in the charging system. Having too many things drawing a load on the charging system can lead to issues with engine performance. The more voltage drawn away from your fueling and ignition system the more likely you can run into injectors not pulsing correctly and weak spark delivery. This isn't likely with oem lighting, but if you're slapping those giant light bars on adding rally style fog lights, a sub woofer and 3 amps, you can see how this can lead to issues later on. 5. Carbon fiber. Completely personal preference. If you have the money and want to slap carbon fiber everywhere that's up to you. This isn't something you should never do. If it were me adding one more to the list. Never launch your wrx or sti without slipping the clutch. The awd system isn't likely to spin the tires and you're just going to shock the shit out of your drive train. Also roll into boost after 3k rpm. Don't just jam the throttle in low rpm as it puts a lot of load on the engine. Super clean Sti, appreciate the content. 👍

I got a 2016 a few months ago. Whoever the previous owner was spent a lot of money under the hood, including BOV. Been wondering if it’s around that 400hp mark at least on e85 since he also did that upgrade as well

I highly disagree with the lighting topic. I run the OLM Halo fog lights/ with the DRL Bezels plus LED turn signal lights, nothing too crazy. But the car looks definitely more modern. I think the stock look, specially on the front end looks outdated compared to similar cars out there. Either way, I respect your opinion, and your videos are great.

Just to add something. I have a conversation with a over 12 years experience Subaru mechanic. The Intake change would not affect the engine. The car have a mass flow sensor. The sensor will calculate how much flow of air and the computer ajust the consumption of gas. The only thing tuning car helps is to adjust to get better performance with what you have or add.

This. Ive run the Perrin intake with no tune for 15k miles with 0 issues. If the change of air flow were enough to cause a problem, you would throw a CEL

Agreed! Key words "me personally" "daily driver". For me personally I do have c-light switchbacks, but kept the stock front turn signals as a safety back up in case the switchbacks fail. Couple ques. I see you're married, but don't know if you have kids. Either way how do you go about budgeting & convincing your wife not to hate you for your mod purchases? Also I see you have side skirts & rear spats but no front lip. Personal choice or in between lips? Thx! Fellow Jersey 2015+ GBP Rex driver via the shore.

I try to always say it’s my own opinion anytime I’m speaking about a subjective subject. People take whatever people say as the end all be all. As long as you convey is your own opinion, people tend to accept it a bit better. Yes I have 2 kids. My wife has known me since we were 18 and has known my hobby and what I do. It’s nothing new to her so a few boxes of car parts that show up at the door step is something she doesn’t question haha. She enjoys cars as well so she understands my passion. Yes I was in the middle on converting to the 2018+ front bumper so I stripped my 17 bumper down to stock and sold all the pieces off. Looks like you found my recent video on my kit I’m running. 👍🏻 local. Bennies go home.

It’s funny how tons of people think that EVOs can run 1000 hp. Well technically they can for like 5000 miles. A Evo motor can run reliable at 450 hp where in STI can at 400 not that big a difference.
