After watching your videos, I tossed my old resume and had spent two weeks revising my resume. Your resume is like a sales copy. Headline( interest) keywords, format with a clear call to action.The acronym AIDA is a handy tool for ensuring that your copy, or other writing, grabs attention. The acronym stands for: Attention (or Attract). Interest. Desire. Action. These are the four steps you need to take your audience through if you want them to buy your product or visit your website, or indeed to take on board the messages in your report or resume.

Great information as usual but I have one objective ☝🏿.... every recruiter for every company is different. Some like tradition clean, some want the skill set listed, and some want a professional Summery. It’s so complicated now a days to satisfy everyone which leaves the employee or potential employee in the dark.
@Workitdaily7 жыл бұрын
I hear you Duran, it can feel complicated. BUT, after working with 1000s of recruiters, here's what we've learned. Even they don't know what they really want. AND YET, our format is working with all of them. The ones that want less data love our format, and the ones that want more tend to call the people using our format because the way it's designed hints to the fact that they will get more info if they call the candidate. you have to "tease" recruiters with your resume.

Great tips for commons mistakes when compiling a resume. We often feel like we have to list every possible thing we have done in order to be called for an interview and then we sit in the interview, unsure of what to say, because we have said it all in the resume and we've not sure what we can add, since we had such a comprehensive resume.
@Workitdaily7 жыл бұрын
Thanks or sharing Fahranaaz. It's true, people often make the mistake of putting everything they've ever done on a resume. To be honest, it is better to 'tease' the recruiter with only enough information to get them to contact you. We have a step-by-step process for doing that inside WorkItDaily.com. Our tutorial explains how to share just enough info to get employers interested. I've seen situations where people put so much info on their resume that when a recruiter sees it, they assume if you don't have that one little thing they need, you must not have it because it's not on the resume. So to be honest, less is more!

Great comments and tips. However, all too often these videos or blogs do not address the "out-of-the-box" type of jobs, such as estate managers. Or how to handle soft skills which are very important in intercultural communication/intelligence fields. In the skills area I have the following: Intercultural Intelligence, Social Intelligence, Global Mobility, Project Management (this is NOT I T), Design Mindset, HNW Management (High-Net-Worth), 5 foreign languages. Not the typical skill sets. With all the "white space" what does one do when the CV is already 3 pages? This is due to a very diverse professional and academic background. My education requires 3/4 of a page. I'd love to finally see a blog or video on how to tackle a varied and rich career. Keep the great and informative videos and emails coming!

Hi Ronald, JT works with folks like you every day. She says the resume format we teach is ideal for you because it provides a way to "zone in" on your specialty. I agree, your not an IT guy, and when you simplify and showcase properly, that message gets across. ANd, if you are on 3 pages and don't have a lot of whitespace, then something is wrong with the info you are sharing. Most people think they have to be super detailed on a resume, but it's the opposite. When you learn our process for simplifying your text, you'll see how to let the accomplishments do the heavy-lifting.

In the effort to add white space and reducing a 4 page resume to two pages? Should you keep career accomplishments and add a link to LinkedIn for more details or lose some accomplishments and show more work history? I’m a senior professional in IT and feedback I get on my 4 page resume is they want more details which is hard to get past the six second rule.
@Workitdaily6 жыл бұрын
Hi T Brown, Good question. - When you're revamping your resume, be sure to quantify your accomplishments in your work history. Numbers draw the recruiter key in and will help to illustrate your accomplishments. Same goes for LinkedIn. When cutting down your resume, keep in mind what accomplishments are relevant to the position you're applying to. You can have a longer, everything included resume, but also have some that are customized to the position you're applying to. Does this help?
@beckyweech19695 жыл бұрын
No.One thing I think is being highly overlooked is the work of stay at home Moms. They are extremely organized, many have degrees, do a ton of charity work, most handle the family finance these days, and most have worked for pay throughout the time to supplement income. They work harder and are more reliable and organized than many working for a paycheck. Why isn't that work more valued?

Hi JT, in a world surprisingly devoid of consistent sound advice and clear, concise delivery, yours is a bright light which has changed the way I have applied for jobs, especially those follow up questions, love those! Yours is also the first place I am going to right after being dismissed! This is a first for me and not one I quite expected. I am legally bound not to say anything about the details, but would be curious to know what your advice is as I look into it.

Clearly I need to edit. Question: How can a long-term volunteer (military spouse/mother) show the success of my accomplishments when part of actually succeeding means I have delegated my work to someone who could accomplish specific tasks better than I can?

Excellent points! Can you provide an example of headline for a college graduate ( Just got my BBA) and I’m looking for an entry level job. Thanks

Awesome. Yes, I do have the skill sets on my resume however on the second page. It would be great if you please provide more info or example of it. I might be putting wrong information. Thanks

What are the implication if I have a break in my work history, say, I couldn't find a job in my profession so that I had to do something unconnected with my profession for a year or so? How do I fill up the gap?

I would also love to see an example of a resume that resembles the five key points as outlined in your video.

Do you have any tips for people in healthcare? Our achievements aren’t really measurable by us, and are influenced by outside factors. We can’t say “x% of people recovered because of my nursing care” etc. one nurse can’t increase productivity unless they are the manager and implement specific changes. The skill sets vary depending on the type of unit you work in(ICU/labor & delivery, OR, etc), but how would you set yourself apart when literally every other nurse on your unit (or applying for that job) also has the exact same skill set, because all the nurses are required to have the same skills? Any guidance is appreciated.
