This video is a commentary of mine on the highly controversial reign of the Byzantine emperor Justinian II (685-695/ 705-711) and more particularly on his character. Justinian II is often remembered as one of Byzantium's most despicable emperors that many would come to hate for his cruel deeds as well as for losing his nose but regaining the throne with a fake nose as a replacement. However, when getting deep into the story of Justinian II, there is more to him than just being a bloodthirsty evil monster historians portray him as. This video thus aims to highlight the times when we would come to have sympathy for him and thus feel bad for him but also the times we would come to hate him. Aside from having done some cruel things as emperor including massacres and purges on political enemies, there are some moments when Justinian II too was the victim such as when he was deposed as emperor in 695 wherein his nose was removed and his eventual execution in 711 where not only he but his family were put to death. In this video, I will go over times we felt bad for Justinian II and times we hated him in an alternating pattern and if you have any thoughts on Justinian II or suggestions, please leave it in the comments.

You forgot to mention about him abolishing the office of consul This is one of reasons why Byzantine Empire is seperated from it's origins and past because Justinian II abolished consul thus making Byzantium seperating from it's Roman past
