Just harvested my first ever deer (ended up being a mature buck) on Monday! Season started on the 15th, and I had the bucks patterned in my area down to moon phases/pressure. Harvest moon was on Monday and the pressure was 30.33"! Came out at 6:23 behind me and gave me a nice 25 yard shot.

Upstate NY bow started on 10-1. Got in my stand at the intersection of woods, corn and a horse paddock at 430 am. Saw a monster 8 pt at 745 am. As I drew my bow, he turned his head and spotted me. I had his neck in my sight and hesitated to move. I'm sore I didn't get the buck, but I'm a firm believer in a well placed shot. I'm hoping to see him again in the future!

Hey Jeff Kevin here.ive been hearing about a big 10 typical and a big buck with a drop time.this afternoon I took a walk in the area where these were seen and found a clearly defined scrape line which ended in cut over new growth with a big hemlock tree with 2 big scrapes underneath it.these scrapes resembled scrapes found in mid to late october.based on what I told u would you consider putting a camera on this spot or would you advise leaving it alone?

I got my stand on a rise in a split oak tree. There is a big oak behind me, and a smaller one in front. I’m overlooking a deer path that Opens up into an oak grove. Beyond in a strip of land between a shallow pond and a cattail swamp. There is a swamp behind me. This will be my first season hunting this property and I have it to myself as far as hunting. I’m part of a management program put on by my local forest preserve distric. Only thing that can ruin it is people with thier dogs. When I was setting up my stand there come a dog with a bell just running free in the woods. Last time I was checking my cams and setting my bow holder a guy was walking his dog. The site has a wire across the road with a padlock, and a nice sign telling people we are hunting, so I hope people read and understand.

Most of the action on the property I hunt is on the interior (or so I think!!!). In that situation is it still valuable to place cameras on the corners of the property even if it sacrifices how much action I get to see? Now that I think of it we don't really have any stands or cameras on the corners of the property and we tend to be very unaware of what bucks are on our property so it makes me wonder if there is some value for me to place cameras outside of the interior.

Jordan they are www.exodusoutdoorgear.com Exodus trail came and they are a very high quality trail cam at a decent price! $230 and I run mine on hybrid mode, which is one pic and then a video. I run pure, HD video. They have a 5 year, 100% replacement warranty...which is awesome, but they don't fail. I love the 2" viewing screen too... but they are really a high end trail cam at a lower than high end price...

Every single time I cut trail to a stand location the deer start to use that trail as well. I don't spook many deer but Im not seeing the buck's as much because I use those trail's.. I've even tried to cut two or three trail's and pick the one's the deer use the least but they still use all my trail's. . I don't know what to do about it?? Any suggestion's?

If it’s thick enough that you really need to cut trails, find something to block your entry trail with. Something that the deer can’t pass, but is easily moved so you can pass.
@ironlife227
@ironlife227 4 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue ,I made "gates" out of brush and wire and haven't had nearly as much deer traffic. So I then cut trails in front of the stand in a wagon wheel type layout and the deer started using them almost immediately and 8 years later those trails I cut are some of the most used trails on my 96 acres.

What you would suggest me to do? I set up 2 stands on an 80 acre public land property they’re about 200 yards away , close I know but 2 great spots based on 2 different winds. I never cleaned the sticks out and there are a ton! The deer in the area is somewhat used to human scent because some people jog there. Should I go and kind of clean up the sticks ?season opens here in MA oct 1st

Either raking or blowing the leaves off the trail to get into the woods will not move the deer off your property. Because that big buck isn’t on your property. And when you do it one time and you get all the sticks off get down to the bare dirt now with just leaves on it you’re 10,000 times more quiet. You can do this in May or March or any time of the year. And I’ve raked hundreds of yards of trail. Since under your logic if you ever go into the woods with a chainsaw and do any cutting then you’ll never see another deer on your grounds for a year. So even when the leaves fall in October the trail is silent unless the deer is 10 yards from you.
