New to elk hunting ( 2nd year) and on the struggle bus just trying to understand , so if this is a stupid question just say so 🤣!! So when e scouting an area, say Colorado how do you pick a unit? Once a unit is picked are you using the same 5 tips? how do you deal with pressured elk that are not talking? Are you constantly moving until you start seeing fresh sign and or getting a response? How long do you give an area before moving on? Again all new to this and was definitely on the struggle bus this September,, just trying to understand. Hope you guys stay safe out there and good luck!!!!!

How do yall contact the person that owns that private land???
@odenphillips69803 жыл бұрын
Most of Oregon's private timber lands are owned by large timber company's like Weyerhaeuser & you have to pay yo get access to those lands. These forests eere sold to those company's for pennies on the dollar value by our corrupt state forrestry departments with special interest legislators pushing the deals thru state government legislative sessions. This is how Oregon mismanages our resources ,& game herds. Thanks Oregon!

@@odenphillips6980 ahhh okay. I wished that onx makes a option where u can see the owner number around the whole state if u can access thru there spot.
@boardbysled3 жыл бұрын
@@odenphillips6980 lots of private timberland is open for public access. ODFW manages a Travel Management Area which produces maps and provides information on how to see which lands are open and contacts for private timber companies.
@odenphillips69803 жыл бұрын
@@boardbysled The only problem with that is that Some timber companies charge a fee to access their lands. Those lands use to be public and open to us and we're given to these large corporations or sold for pennies on the dollars to them. I don't have problem with companies, it's the crooked politicians that made the deals with them and the favorable tax exemptions they get too. Meanwhile, the public is excluded unless you pay 100's to get on these lands that should be open to us because of the fake sales excuted for political gains. Rant over , get use to a European model, pay to hunt.

I wish onx had a clear cut filter. It’s pretty bumming when you get to a clear cut that looks good on onx and it’s way thicker than it is.

Do you target a specific elevation range, or zero in on the higher elevations in an area? In Idaho I have been looking at mostly places between 6k to 8k feet. I saw your example was at 1200 feet and I have never considered something that low as having potential.....maybe I am thinking about this wrong.

Just love you guys. I love watching your videos. Made me decide to get back into bow hunting again. Have Hunted elk with rifle here in Utah for a lifetime. Keep up the great week.

This access is exactly what I been running into on the Navajo Nation, getting out talking to landowners and a lot of hiking so far. But these are some great spots requiring me to do that. Enjoyed the video!

I live right by Roseburg and all of my scouted locations with good elk numbers are inaccessible at the moment. Luckily I know the BLM borders so that helps. We could use some rain badly!! Best of luck to y'all this season. I'll be hunting Tioga until the 16th and then it's off to Ukiah. Got a buddy flying in from Oklahoma to do his first ever elk hunt. Want to ease him into it 😉

I see that most all of the hunting channels I watch use OnX, I've thought about getting it too, after watching your simplified tutorial, I'm on it... Truly enjoy watching what ya'll do!

You definitely should, I used to buy hand held GPS. I’ll tell you what I will never do since switching to OnX. It’s a night and day different. Sooooo much easier!

You will not regret it. It's the best tool I've ever purchased for hunting/scouting

Would have beem nice if Cody showed his computer screen when he was making a point about saving a map, ect. The camera should have been panning over his shoulder not showing us his face when he made a point . Enjoy your content but , this was very little help for someone that's never used Onx.
@natespnwadventures3 жыл бұрын
It's super easy. In the Onx app it shows the "offline" maps as a choice. Click that, then it pops up a box that is x square miles depending on what you choose. You then move the map box to wherever you are wanting to hunt/scout and then save it. Hope this helps 👍
