With social anxiety, I find that the more roller skaters that come out to skate, the more comfortable I feel - rather than going with just 1 other skater. It feels more comfortable in a sense oddly for me maybe because less attention on me and I just kinda fade into the background hahah. Other than that just waking up really early to go alone is fine with me. I find comfort in the solitude

The thing that I appreciate someone has done for me honestly was a friendly smile from someone who was killin it. Funny how something so simple could disarm the invisible social threats in mu head so quickly. Smile people it goes a long way!😁

Wonderful tips! I went from being agoraphobic and having no friends to now, where I am more comfortable leaving the house and am apart of my local skate community. I can happily say roller skating has changed my life 🛼🌈

That gives me hope. I’m moving somewhere that has a really great skate community. I hope I’ll have a similar experience!

AHH i've done that so many times!!! I hope it gets better but don't be hard on yourself for how you feel, it's valid and allowed. Hope you get an empty skatepark next time ;)

Loved the video! I feel this so much. A few weeks ago I went to the skatepark for the first time by myself. I was very anxious and felt awkward. When I finally started rolling around the park a boy came up to me. He was maybe 11 or 12 and he was an skates aswell. He was super friendly and hyped me up asking questions and being super sweet. I had a lovely day we skated together the whole time, trying out things, falling and laughing. He really made my day

love this video. :) ive only come to accept my anxiety as "bad" this past few months and its what has stopped me from doing more things including doing as much skating as i'd like. i dont have skate friends and even find it anxiety inducing to skate in car parks near me as im scared someone is going to come and yell at me for skating! 😭 it needs to be talked about more

Thank you for this. I have never felt so alone in my life. It’s been so hard lately. I know how flawed my thinking is, but it’s like the truth can’t get in. I used to be so good at using the tools you described. DBT was something that really helped me. A main component of which is mindfulness. Heck, I even used to make videos about it too. And now…I don’t know what happened. It’s like my brain won’t let me. And I don’t even want to try anymore. I just feel like such a broken person and I can’t fake it anymore. I feel like I don’t even know how to be a person. Journaling was my thing. That’s not working. Thank God for my husband (who also happens to be an LCSW). I feel like he’s the only one I can share these things with. I just feel guilt and shame around anyone else. I cry all the time.

Thank you for sharing I know a lot of people can relate to this. I hope that you feel better soon 🤍 I'm glad your hubby is there for you too and good job still finding reasons to be grateful even when it's tough. That always helps me feel more like myself.

Proud of you for sharing and opening up about how you're honestly feeling. Thank you for sharing. That can be the hardest part sometimes. I hope you continue to heal and find space you feel like it's okay to just be as you are, no matter how you're feeling or the energy you do or don't have. I hope the guilt and shame melts away too so you can feel peaceful again. I'm also very close with my partner and family which really helped me through some of my hardest emotional times when my anxiety was high/severe. I am sending you a big hug and hoping one thing from your day brings you joy.

Never related this much, I got my skates and all my gear, but just thinking about going out in public, even if there is nobody, gives me so much anxiety that I just don't. Still working up the courage to go, I might ask my bf to just sit there while I skate, but then I feel guilty 😂 what a vicious cycle lol. I'm getting there tho. Thank you for this video 😊

Love this like 🔥 Thank you for being a powerful woman who is able to Talk Out Loud about mental health. Anxiety can absolutely be your super power. It comes with benefits of having a great sense of empathy, tremendous EQ, and knowing how to accept others into your Tribe. You are SO right - identify it, accept it, own it and KNOW it’s part of who you are! You are so right - self acceptance is so very key! Choose YOU. 🧡🧡🧡

Thank you so much for sharing your struggles and the tips that helped you -- I needed to hear this more than I realized. When I decided to start skating, I was paralyzed with fear -- and I shared my fear with members of the FB group I joined. They were all so supportive, sharing their similar experiences and offering to meet up with me and physically hold my hand to help me conquer my fear. It's helped me so much more than they realize. And now you have too ❤️❤️❤️

I definitely like to do the ‘checking the place out first’ where possible. This includes trying to scope the floor surface from image searching the place online.

Me accepting myself the way I am has really helped me deal with my social anxiety. Even when I go to the park and skate, as a beginner I find that people are actually pretty nice. I fell on my face the other day on a trail and I just laughed and smiled at the other ppl around me. I didn’t even feel embarrassed so I’m very proud of how far I’ve come from my anxiety. Therapy didn’t help me whenever I tried it...I helped me. And videos like these are really helpful.

Totally understand what your saying. As an adult man I feel people will be judging if I’m “too old” to skate. And it stops me from going out on skates in busy periods where there’s a lot of younger people around. So I get what you mean… in my younger years I’d be out all day. But as I’ve got older I’m more aware people talk.

I been having dizziness and tense of panic when i get in the rink that it makes me feel like i get so nervous i do make a face of pain when it hits me. i slow down on my speed when i skate and how the feeling of moving and the overwhelming moment is what makes me hard to go back because i overthink that and probably have it again.
