This is good stuff. I don't know any Hebrew, but I am trying to learn the accent. I am creating a new character for a roleplaying game I'm in, and I've decided to give her an Israeli accent. I always like to try to sound as natural as possible, so your little filler phrases are super helpful!

The best way to The best way to expand your Hebrew vocabulary is to insist that the Sabras STOP answering you in English and saying the dreaded "Oh, you can speak English". Damn straight I can, it's my native language! I'm convinced that the Sabras don't want to speak Hebrew until the other person speaks it perfectly, rapidly and with a perfect accent. I just gave up when I lived there. .iYou must insist that the Sabras STOP answering you in English and saying the dreaded "Oh, you can speak English". Damn straight I can, it's my native language! I spent ~7 months studying intensive Hebrew at Ulpan Etzion in Jerusalem, one of the oldest ulpans in Israel. I was functional in Hebrew by the end and was able to get through my IDF service, but I wouldn't say I was fluent in Hebrew. Also my Israeli friends would tell me that my Hebrew was typical "ulpan Hebrew", meaning a bit stiff and formal and lacking colloquial expression. My ulpan class, which I enjoyed a great deal, was very international and I think that the native English speakers were at the biggest disadvantage in learning Hebrew because especially in a large city like Jerusalem or Tel Aviv it was so easy to fall back on English.

si, hay ventajas de hablar varios idiomas para captar las pronunciaciones. ya noté que el hebreo de Estados Unidos suena como un dialecto que especialmente con los sonidos para ח + ק + ך suena confuso. eEn teoría te dicen bien como debe sonar la letra, pero en una palabra ... cualquier cosa 🤷‍♀️

I know I’m going to spell this wrong, but the 1st filler word you used,(ke’elu) does that have the same meaning as ke’elu kahn in Boaz Mauda’s song? If so, that would mean he is singing “like here”? In what context is he signing this or is it another ke’elu? Slicha, I hope that I was not too confusing. Toda raba!

Embarrassingly enough. My biggest problem is I have dry mouth on and off due to medication and the pronunciation of the ch is so hard my tongue gets stuck and wont perform. Maybe I need to carry gum or mints idk. Further you said a word that needs to have an early start on the ch if you know what i mean. Also you start the ch sound a little earlier in the word cholahl sorry idk the spelling of the word--so that makes it even harder for me. How can I get over that? Should I start saving up saliva or what do I do?

@Hebleo 6 жыл бұрын
Germán Rivas You are right, but there is an important similarity between the Spanish J and the Hebrew ח (more so l would argue then the ה). But you are right to point out that those are two different sounds. In order to produce the ח, one must feel the throat vibrating.

I'm Canadian I speak French-Canadian which is slightly different from France French. It's more harsh and less floral sounding. When I speak French the "rrhe" sound is more gutteral and similar to hebrew rheysh. I am able to to a decent israeli accent becuse French and Hebrew are surprisingly similar-sounding
