We do the same thing since I am German native and Christmas Eve is our time to open presents too. We spend the 25th with my husbands family. Love your companion page layout idea. Grid layouts are my go to as well since they seem to fit usually with anything.Thanks for sharing

@@JaymaMalme we love our advents wreath and light a new candle each Sunday until Christmas. Lots of home backed cookies and we always had an advent calendar as kids. They are cute for adults too ;-) The famous Christmas Pickle is a myth LOL I heard about it the first time when we went to Bronners here in Michigan (Biggest Christmas Store 364 days a year you can find). My parents would put up the tree on Christmas Eve day but close the doors to the living room so we kids would not see the tree until Christmas Eve. We did gift giving on the 24th too and since the 25 and 26 are public holidays in Germany too, we save those days to visit each grandparents. Lot’s of good food….one tradition is a Christmas Goose with red cabbage and “Klöße” which are potato dumplings, caned peach half’s filled with lingonberry jam. Oh yes and we always have a real tree (same here in the US for us) and candles on the tree. I know people freak out when I said this, but ever since we were born we always had real candles on the three. You need to watch them and can’t walk away from them. The holders have a metal insert were the candle sits in so when it burns down it doesn’t harm the holder. We usually light it when we sit down for dinner. The special candles last about 1 1/2h so perfect to keep an eye on them. Stroh stars and ornaments are on our tree too…….wow sorry didn’t meant to write that much. Maybe I have to create a layout or two for all these traditions ;-) Merry Christmas and keep in touch, love to trade traditions

you wouldn't know that they were both done at different times as they blend in well together. We celebrate Christmas on the 25th December but since the birth of my great g/daughter 4 years ago the time frame varies but thanks to covid, I am now able to spend the day with my family as they no longer go to my ex's place for the day. This year it will be a barbeque lunch & the present giving afterwards as my grandson gets his daughter this year at midday, last year we had her Friday night & Christmas morning. I guess these days more families have to work around these types of schedules. My niece has kids by two different fathers, I think she is on her own this year & was going to her father's for the day.

I am 1/4 Polish! But that side of the family was Jewish. We never celebrated Hanukkah with them, though, because my dad converted to Christianity, but now I am very intrigued with those traditions!
