The best tip IMO is that you dont have to throw far, you have to throw to a good spot to throw your next .
@gerardschmenk62643 жыл бұрын
My tip is you have to throw far. Because rec players are gonna get beat by intermediate players that are sand bagging. That’s why I don’t play many minis. I throw avg. 250ft. I still haven’t thrown under par because of 250ft. 250ft. Shots are not gonna get you birdies. I will argue anyone that distance is everything when you can only throw 250ft. Until you can surpass that 300ft mark then and only then is when putting is everything to get under par.
@cdogg-he8ni3 жыл бұрын
Totally! You have 3 tries to get the disc in the basket!....As for competition, yeah, probably don't want to play anything other than the lowest tier until you have some distance, but I play with a couple guys that have years on me and I stay in the game. Sometimes I win, sometimes I'm the longest drive, main thing to remember is, just have fun! Can't perform on the course when you're too busy worrying about other players!
@65EKS653 жыл бұрын
I kinda disagree, maybe not for complete beginner, but for someone who has played disc golf half a year or so (like me). With short throws you can't play for birdie in most of the fairways and sometimes you do get a bogie or with bad luck even worse so you'd want to even that out on some hole.. Around half of the fairways on the 3 closest course which I go to have par 3's which are roughly 80-110m (260-345ft). If you can't throw more than 70m (230ft) it's almost impossible to birdie any of them. That means that HALF of the whole course is you getting a par at best and if you screw up there ain't much you can do to catch up.. This added up with some shorter fairways having quite small gaps or touchy shots you need to hit etc. makes the whole course a hell if you can't throw far on more open and longer fairways imo. I'd say putting is the most important, but then comes long drives/tee shots.

I agree. Consistency is more important than risking terrible placement. Incremental improvement instead of grasping for a lucky shot.

Recently came across this video and it was exactly what I needed. I was coming off one of the worst rounds I have ever played, and it was during my local clubs tags. Nothing felt worse than walking away with that day with a number most people didn't know existed for the club. Since then, I started following your tips, reducing the stress and playing for my pars and it has made the world of difference. It is easy for pros to say "just putt with confidence as they knock down 40 footers, but when you are in the middle of a round just hoping to draw metal at some points, it is great to have these tips to fall back on. That is my long way of saying, Thank you for making this and many other of your videos as they are truly helping me and I am sure others. If there is any way to help support the channel, I would be interested in those details.

@technicalogical56814 жыл бұрын
@@2foleym that's the thing though. stop trying to throw too hard to make distance. Throw a putter for an entire round (or like 3 weeks). On hole one, just get it out there as far as you can, and fine tune from there. After a few holes, you should be able to throw 125-150ft with decent control. Should be able to start playing for par at that point. You'll never miss a fairway and your upshot will become fantastic.

Great point and here you go. Your 5 even MORE basic beginner tips to get you fewer big numbers and more 3, 4s and maybe yes a few 5s but not that many: 1. Ignore all macho idiots. Play the short tees, the rec. or am divisions and throw putters and understable mids. 2. Just put it in play. It's amazing how many strokes are saved just making 'progress' towards the basket. 3. Find a helpful teacher/coach/pro to WATCH you throw. No speeches and theory. Have them show you how to just get the dang thing to fly flat with enough spin to glide out there a ways. 4. Practice SUPER short putts. Like 10 feet. What you are practicing is making putts not missing them. And you can work on your form to get it to come in at a medium speed and dropping downwards into the basket. 5. Have fun and people will want to play with you. If you play enough rounds with good players (while standing behind them so you can see what they do well) you will learn fast.

I would add this: play with people that are clearly better than you! Will you lose? Probably. What you will gain, however, is new skills. Watch the other person throw, see how they approach their shots. I can tell you from experience, the REALLY good league players only want to see you succeed. Don't be afraid to ask for them to watch your throws and provide constructive criticism. More often than not, they are more than happy to do so! Edit: Really good tips video! A lot of people tend to forget how important the mental game is.

Year later how has your game progressed and has your mind set changed?
@bowebevonius Жыл бұрын
@@mylesolson4734 I have soon played 100 rounds in just over a year but I still consider me a rookie. It’s a bit more tough when you start playing disc golf at the age of 55 😄 I now have many local weekly golf games and 5 PDGA tournaments in the bag and hoping for more soon. So, going through the tips from @RobbieCDiscGolf 1. My home course is a pretty heavily wooded course in Sweden so I never feel I have to birdie a hole. Every birdie is still a bonus. 2. I never ever give up but also accept pitching out when I realise there is no gap or even when I feel the gap is to small for my skill. I try to play at my level and not trying things that won’t work even in theory. I’m old and a bit wise 😄 3. It has happened twice that I changed disc based on what the others were throwing. I shanked it good 😅 Doesn’t matter what disc person A is throwing because I don’t have the exact same technique as person A. 4. Keeping my cool. I can be happy over how I performed at one hole even if the round was shitty. I can also be happy over one nice throw during a hole even if the end result was a double bogey. Disc golf is full of half full glasses 💪 5. Oh yes, I accept losing and still have a great time. I feel like I’m only playing against myself even in tournaments. Sure, I would like to be higher up in the results but my main goal is to have fun and see progress in my game. I shot a round today that wasn’t verytgIngmar good, but the exact score would have made me really happy a couple of months ago. So, I am getting better 👍 And I welcome any input from other players if they have a tip. Last week I got a simply tip that opened up my game entirely so I ended up scoring better than the guy who pointed out my a detail in my throw. Don’t be prestigious and you will have more fun 🤘

@@bowebevonius good deal man, glad you are still with it. I have been playing for 2 years now and just entered my first PDGA sanctioned event, which was also my first competitive event ever with disc golf lol. I have only been playing for 2 years, but when i see everyone going for their putters, and I am using my eagle, i am now just like "whatever, i cannot handle my putter like that, but I know my eagle flies a certain way and I can land it over there" Take away: Learn your discs and how they fly on regular, hyzer, and an-hyzer. Don't think at all about other players. That gets into your head and ruins your focus and your shots. Throw to a good spot, don't throw for aces and birdies.

My home course is depressing because the front 9 are all the holes I can get birdies on and then the back 9 I bleed back all of the strokes. If I'm playing good I can be 5-7 under through 9 and then I end up 2 under to 2 over by the end. Its like they realized they made the front too easy so then they over-corrected and made the back too hard. It being 9 hard holes one after another really makes it grueling and the frustrations compound and make it much easier to make bad decisions that end up in big numbers. I am going to really really focus on trying to play for par on every back 9 hole for a while to see if I can do it.

Best advice for a beginner is LEARN A FOREHAND. 200 ft forehand will work. I see way too many people try to turn over a shot and it fades/stalls out and they already aimed left and the disc fades even more left...............its like a double miss. Just chip up a forehand and use the natural disc flight.
