Could you please just upload your rope and knot knowledge straight into my brain?

Does the length of the rope segments between the pulleys offers any advantage to the reduction ratio? That is, does the amount of rope looping around the pulleys matter in any way?

+arnaldohanatarashi I don't think the amount of rope matters much by itself however, the more rope you have out in play, you will have much greater potential for rope contact with terrain resulting in additional friction which is probably your biggest enemy in pulley system efficiency. Also, consider that lots of pulley efficiency tests have been done over the years and the results are often both expected and unexpected. The best place to check this out is itrsonline.org/ where you can brows through all sorts of interesting and sometimes a bit academic research papers and presentations on all sorts of things rope related. A good example is the following link to a pulley efficiency article. itrsonline.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/015.G.Smith_.2014.pdf also check out itrsonline.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/McKently2011_ITRSPresentation.pdf I hope this helps
