I enjoy watching your videos. While I sometimes disagree with some of your ideas, I love your willingness to go forward. You rock girlfriend. Keep your willingness to educate and exchange your thoughts and the updated experiences on your experiments. Wishing all success. We are not 100% alike on this bee adventure. That is so 😎 cool!

Best time I found to put on a pollen trap is in the Spring, they can be a great tool to help cut down on the amount of pollen coming into the colony so it dampens that swarm tendency theoretically.🤔You just have to keep an eye on their pollen levels but it did seem to help last year.😁Have a great day Emily.👍

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it Never ceases to Amaze me just how much Knowledge u can drop in a single video🤯🐝🤯I know there is no such thing as a Bee expert but Impressive all the same😊Super interesting how the bees main goal in life is to spread their genetics but at the same time they won't just Leave the hive without first making sure that said hive is in Good shape for the future, Super cool! Also amazing that the hive will double or even triple no wonder u Need that extra space! Funny when u explained Equalizing taking from the rich to feed the poor I Immediately thought "Oh u should call that Robin Hooding instead!"😉💰🤣Well Thank U for another Great video my Favorite Keeper and a Very Happy Bee Season to U and I will see U in the next one, Emily😊Hope all is well with U and Hope ur having a Great week thus far👏#sword #stoptheswarm #robinhooding #beefitbeekeeping #beefitbeeyard #beefitapiary #happybeeseason #beefithoney #beefit #beekind #checkerboard #emilyisthebeesknees💛

My bees swarmed yeateday. They are a small colony and have 2 boxes but have not drawn out more than 60% of the frames. They are second year and I have fed them 2 winters. They did move upstairs for the winter. Yesterday they were all buzzing around, seemed like a lot. They took off and clustered in a nearby oak tree. This morning there is normal traffic in and out of the hive. I think they went back.

Very helpful. To your last point on genetics and not using queens from colonies with lots of queen cells, what’s the alternative?

To keep the queen “young and fresh” do you just kill the queen and let the bees create a new one?

Fighting with one of mine right now! I cut 16 cells last week and did a demere split with a new deep on bottom an excluder and then 2 new mediums then the 2 deeps. Checked them 3 days later and cut out 5 more up top. And 2 in the bottom. Now I'm out of town for a week for work hoping to still have all my bees when I get home. Its gonna be raining the last 3-4 days im away so hopefully thats in my favor. Been sharing the struggle with this one on the discord hopefully story turns out successfull with a monster honey producer hive.

I caught a small football sized swarm and have been pulling frames of brood from my main hive and putting them in with the swarm hive to build their population. Replacing the brood frames with empty drawn comb for the queen to lay in. By keeping the population down in my main hive is working to keep them from swarming so far.

Mike, I put a honey super in the middle and they drew swarm cells like mad when the brood was separated from the queen. Just cut them down as the larvae gets older the cells stop.

Have u ever thought of getting rid of all those old car tires? The apiary would look so much nicer... the tires give it a junk yard look.

I love your videos. I am not sure about your statement that queen cells from a colony that is preparing to swarm is more likely to produce colonies that are more prone to swarming. I suspect that the genetics are more complex than that. I would like to see some other documentation supporting that. And grafting your own queen cells or doing walk away splits (where that is possible) could just as easily pass on the same genetics. I did learn a few other things that I did not know about what to look for. Thanks.

Not a statement, just a hypothesis. I would be interested in diving deeper into it as well. Thanks for stopping by!

Great video and thanks for the kiss goodbye. You had me fully informed and gaining confidence until the last minute though. You said you don't like taking Queens from swarm cells to avoid passing on swarm genetics well then where do you get the new baby Queens from for your splits? So you pinch or kill all her new baby Queens?! And then what go out and buy new ones for your splits? You also said because you're in Michigan you don't like waiting for your non Queen splits to make a new Queen, so if you don't wait for them to make new ones post-split and you don't like to bring with baby Queens pre-split, you must be buying them??

The part about swarm cells at the end is just a theory. Not saying that it’s 100% fact, just talking about different thoughts and possibilities. And no I don’t buy queens, I would prefer to have some grafted queen cells ready when I make splits

Holy Smokes! Thank you for the information, and I did learn something, but the redundancy is palpable! Seriously, in the first 5 minutes, you said, frames filled with brood in various ways, 5 times, said, why bees are going to swarm 5 times... Video is 15 minutes long! Tricks don't start until 9 minutes!

Why don't you just do this what are you some more Queen and start doing splits on your hives what half of them half of The Brood box start a new hive that'll keep them from forming
