Years ago I use to work at my local city library as a custodian. 15 minutes before we closed the librarian would make an announcement over the PA system. After everyone left, including the librarians, I was all alone to start my custodial job. Suddenly I caught a slight glimpse of someone walking among the aisles! I was shocked! Mustering all my strength, I confronted the stranger! I told him that the library was closed. I escorted him out the door.

I still work in a grocery store, and my co-worker once remarked that statistically, of the hundreds of customers our store serves, at least a few of them have a dangerous or dark side to them. That’s a harrowing thing to remember, even when working during the day.

I agree. But occasionally, the police don't do anything. I was stunned when my then-boyfriend & I worked at the same supermarket & he comes up to me to tell me he just 'left the police'. I was like "What? What happened?" He told me he was in the restroom & a man blocked his way out of the main door of the bathroom. He just wouldn't let him leave. He didn't mug him or attack him, but just kept blocking the door & staring at my boyfriend. Eventually my bf got past him & went to the storefront to report it (No cell phones then). When the police arrived, the strange man was still wandering the store. The strange guy told the police "I know him [my boyfriend]. He lives down the street from me." The police actually said "Well, he knows you." Us: "Ummm......I don't know him, Officer. And what difference does that make?" Police: "Well, you said a stranger accosted you." Us:"????????" Police: "How can you not know him if he lives down the street from you?" He sounded accusatory! I was getting angry myself & said "I've lived in my own neighborhood for 25 years & I DON'T KNOW who lives down the street from me, Officer." The cop looks at me literally aghast! What did he think, this was 1955?!! We live in a city! At any rate, my boyfriend filled out a complaint but nothing much ever came of it, since the strange man didn't touch him. So it doesn't always do much good to call cops.

The store in the thumbnail was a store my dad worked at in the late 80s and early 90s. Michael Jackson came In there once with a mask so nobody would recognize him. The only reason my dad found out is cuz he was the assistant manager at the store and the young checker came in, shaking and told him when he asked for the mans ID it had MJs photo on it.
