Heres a story from my 4th grade year! (Ik its not high school but its still kidna scary) So in my 4th grade year about half way through the school year we were switching classes back to out homerooms because one teacher did match and one did ELA so while we were lined up in the hallway with all of our math books and papers in hand we heard something over the intercom it was like the beginning of the day were the intercom comes on anounces the birthdays, date, and pledge of allegiance theres a loud but not break the quiet loud beeb before it to get all the students attention we heard that beeb and then the principal of our school said “please get into all classrooms as soon as possible restricted movement In process” at that time I didnt know that restricted movement was their way of a louckdown but to keep us calm we didnt huddle in the corner or anything like that instead we put our stuff down at our desks and sat in out seat’s confused wat “restricted movement” was so my teacher being an absolute sweetheart kept us calm until it was over but on the bus ride home that day i sat with one of my friends in fith grade and they said there was a strage man in the cornfield behind the school, so let me explain we have a huge playground behind our school snd behind that is an even bigger cornfield but the man wasnt like coming down to pick up a kid he was staring directly at the school and watching

As a fellow brit, I would like to say they do happen sometimes though! My college has a whole protocol for if theres an intruder :/ They have signs up on what to do, all the doors you have to have a student ID to open, they refuse to let you in without a lanyard visible even if they know you're a student and alot more too. Its kinda terrifying how far they have gone with security

When j was in 4th grade the whi!e school was going to the cafeteria for an assembly. Then the principal called all teachers to the front. It was funny because like 4th,5th,and 6th grade went "oooooo". But then we went back to our classroom and the teachers locked the doors.💀 Later they told us that we had to go in a hard lockdown aka meaning they thought there was a threat in the school. But it was caused cuz people stile A car and they were armed and then they crashed the car.

For others who are curious what procedures I am referring to: In story two the teacher lets the student in as he is banging on the door. As teachers we are specifically trained not to open the door for anyone regardless of if we think it’s a student or not. We are even told not to open it for police. If they are really police, making a sweep, they will be able to open the classroom themselves or a code green announcement will be made ahead of time. It puts everyone inside the room in danger to open the door on your own. For all you know, the student you think is harmless could be the reason the lockdown is in effect for being in a weapon to school and you are the one letting them in. (This is also a reason why teachers say to only go to the bathroom if it is an absolute emergency. If you are outside the classroom when a lockdown goes into effect you are kind of out of luck.) In the same story, the school goes into lockdown before an announcement is made. The moment a possible emergency is detected on campus an announcement is immediately made via loudspeaker and THAT is when the school goes into lockdown, not before. Similarly, in story three, the teacher is told to lockdown the classroom via class phone. No lockdown would start that way because if the teacher misses the call they would have no idea and their whole class would be in danger. It is always via loudspeaker so everyone on campus knows. In story four, the kid and his mom call the school and report about the man in the jacket. This would be impossible. Office phones do not take calls during lockdowns. In story five, the teacher decides to leave the teachers lounge and go back to his classroom after the lockdown starts. No one is ever supposed to go into a hallway during a lockdown. We are explicitly trained to take shelter in whatever room is closest or a room we are already in. A real teacher would know that. (Also, the teacher would know that calling the principal during a code red would be pointless and the reason is not because “he was busy.”) This isn’t a procedure but it is something unexpected. In story five, the narrator says that each department has its own lounge, and that the lounge has couches and tvs. Idk what school he teaches at but I want to work there because that school must have MONEY. Schools usually only have one teachers lounge and they usually just have like, a couple tables and chairs and a fridge and maybe a microwave. For any students reading this. Please take code reds seriously. Even if you think it is a drill, treat it like it isn’t, because your life could be in serious danger. It is a crazy world we live in. Follow whatever directions your teachers give you, even if you don’t understand, because we are trained to do what is best to keep as many people as safe as possible.
