Public service announcement: Solemnity will actually "turn off" Yisan. Adding the counter is part of the cost. If you cannot pay the cost, you cannot activate the ability.

I think he said it right! Put solemnity after you get one verse counter on it and then after that u can start just getting 1cmc creatures each time you activate him

@@Whothegoat671 It doesn't matter if Yisan already has a counter on him. Solemnity doesn't allow counters to be placed on creatures. Since putting a counter on Yisan is part of the activation cost, you cannot activate Yisan at all with Solemnity in play.

when you started talking about kykar i was trying to think of how it could be built as anything other than spellslinger and i thought you were going to say vehicles since casting the vehicles gives you a spirit to help crew them

This is my Kykar build. It’s totally creature less except kykar. It’s got token makers, vehicles, etc. super janky but super fun.

I made a deck once where every card was Mana Value 1. The commander was Valentin, Dean of the Vein and it was a voltron deck. It got played a handful of times with a single win and the novelty wore off, so I took it apart. But I'm still glad I made it, it was a fun little challenge. That said, one card I used in that deck that I'm surprised you didn't mention was Instrument of the Bards. It basically gives you the same benefit of the Hibernation's End/ Solemnity combo you mentioned but you trade off needing two specific cards for just having to pay four mana to activate it each turn.

Flanking tribal works great with Odric Master tactician as the commander. I have an odric deck full of flanking, bushido, and blocking triggers that's super fun.

So with the Kellan stax build, the weakness seemed to be you have to switch off the stax pieces in your turn, and a lot of artifact stax pieces hurt in the upkeep. So... what if we politic'd our way into getting other players to destroy the stax piece in THEIR turn, using Kellan.... like with Assault Suit and all the blue Switcheroo's.... i think now we're cooking with fire!

Sidar isn't actually a first name, it's a title. So Sidar Jabari is a totally separate guy from Sidar Kondo. If I remember right, Sidar means something like "General"

I think for the 1CMC tribal, black offers up a lot of interesting choices. Immortal Servitude for 4 getting you back a ton of creatures, Orzhov Charm becoming a modal removal spell and reliable reanimate, and Proclamation of Rebirth / Return to Ranks already wanting to play with the GY. But there's also a lot of one-drops that you can grow: Evolved Sleeper, Guul Draz Assassin, Knight of the Ebon Legion, Stalactite Stalker, and the likely commander - Frodo, Sauron's Bane.

1 CMC for monoblack has interesting uses as well. My girlfriend told me once of a friend who used to play a Shirei deck and the two things she remembers from that is that he won most of the games that night and played his deck unsleeved, riffle shuffling and all that.

I used kykar as my superfriendscommander for a while. The extra spirits make great blockers and the "ramp" helps with high cost PWs like ugin.

I run Kykar on Anthems as a theme, since every time U play a none-creature (like enchantments) U'll get a Spirit token every time as well... Shout outs to Commander Quarters ❤

I wanted to do a Planeswalker flicker deck with Cadric as the commander, but I wanted to have blue in the deck. I almost went with Kykar with Cadric being a secret commander. I ended up scrapping the idea and doing The Sixth Doctor/Romana II. Still haven't built it in paper, and I'm worried it will be a huge pain to pilot, but I like the idea of having a bunch of token Planeswalkers.

I think the new Streetwise Delney might be the better Flanking commander. I only developed it as a subtheme in my brew, but the combination of her two abilities make your creatures pretty untouchable attackers. First, they can't be blocked by creatures with power greater than 2, and then if a two power creature does block flanking triggers twice and now it's a zero power creature if it's not just dead.

I actually built a 1 CMC deck with Rhys as the commander. EVERY non land card in the deck had 1 CMC. it was too limited. It had decent starts, but it wasn't good later in the game. This started the idea of doing it for each CMC cost. I built a 2 CMC deck with every non land card had a CMC of 2 and again not very good. I started a 3 CMC deck with Alesha as the commander but i never finished it and i never started a 4 or 5 CMC deck.

I actually built a One drop tribal. My Elas-il-kor Is a great aristocrats Commander, and I built It with creatures with both 1 CMC and same Power and Toughness, so they sinergize with both Abiding Grace and Symmetry Matrix (which btw Is both an incredibly underrated card and a colorless draw option) and there are actually a lot of good options.

Warlock class and wound reflection does something similar without the wording. Can use torgaar or scourge of skyclaves to make your opponents lose a lot of life.

I had to take my Plargg deck apart. It wasn't necessarily good but it [unintentionally] exploited a weakness most casual tables have. That weakness is: not attacking the player who isn't doing much. It comes out of nowhere!
