When you are working with react, you should not manipulate the dom elements on your own in ways based on id or class. Because react is the one who manages all the dom elements, it will mess up things. React gives useRef only to get the dom object of an element. So that's the way to do in react. What you said will work but it will create unexpected problems in large projects.
