I found one on some rocks at the beach at night this summer. It was eating a large black clam, and half of its body was coiled up inside it, and you could actually hear very strange sounds coming from the inside as the clam was getting devoured. Truly a sight to behold.

Scolopendra heros or scolopendra polymorpha IMO. Tbh there are no "good for beginners species" because only the species of scolopendra genus are cool and common in the pet trade and all Scolopendra species have pretty much the same temperament but people usually keep polymorpha and heros as beginners because they are cheap.

Well, being harmless to people doesn't mean that a bite isn't painfull. My Cupiennius salei male kills a grasshopper double it's weight so fast that the grasshopper doesn't even move a leg or feeler/ antenna anymore - it's like instantly dead with the bite, and still it's harmless; but I wouldn't want to get bitten by him.

They are friendly...no they bite. But I do know that it is ok to hold yellow earth centipedes because they have super weak venom and they are so small that the jaws can not puncture human skin. How do I know, I held one two days ago

Greeks called it since the beginning of time, Σαρανταποδαρουσα (Sarantapodaroysa). It means: He who has 40 feet. AND IT ACTUALLY HAS 42? Meh... close enough... I am not even mad...
