Just set up my digital filing system on Evernote. A lot of work at first to gather everything, scan it, organize it in notebooks and notes, tag, etc but so worth the effort. I have a bunch of paper to take for shredding and now just have the basic things like passport, birth certificate, will… in hard copy. What a huge relief! It will be easy to keep up with now that the initial setup is done. I feel like a weight has lifted. Thanks for your ideas and guidance.

Do you transfer all electronic documents from the bank, credit card companies, utilities, etc. to Evernote too? Or do you leave them with the companies?

You are absolutely fabulous. What stores do you usually do your grocery shopping at? Do you ever stock up on water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip

How do you organize them digitally? I leave stuff digital if that is how it comes in, but hesitate to move the few papers I still have to digital because I don't have a good organization system for digital images.

Have you had any issues showing documents through an app vs the actual document?

So we make sure we keep the physical paper copy of anything that has a raised seal or is an "official" document, like birth certificates, our marriage license, etc. (We probably have around 15 of those documents or less.) But as far as other paperwork goes, we only keep the digital version and haven't had a problem with anything being accepted. Very, very occasionally there will be a store that is kind of cranky about accepting a digital version of a receipt rather than the paper version, so if that is something you're worried about, you could keep the paper receipt for 30 days and then discard. But we have only had a store get cranky about it one time in the 10+ years we've been paperless, and we talked to the manager and he did accept the digital receipt, so it ended up being fine. I hope that helps!

What do you do with original copies of things you can’t toss, like birth and marriage certificates, Social Security Cards, etc.?

Great question! Anything "official" like that/things with a raised seal, we keep in a small lockbox for safekeeping. We probably have less than 15 items or so in there. 🙂

I'd recommend a fireproof safe box for those things. You can get a small one at walmart or target for less than $20 :)

Hi there! We made it with pieces from IKEA's BESTA system! All of the details are in this post if that would be helpful: justagirlandherblog.com/home-office-storage-with-the-ikea-besta-system/ Have a great day!

@@AbbyOrganizes Thank you Abby, it was very helpful and some great tips for multi-function space. I am putting a small sewing corner together in my flex room and it seems a good option for cutting and fabric storage.

Are you ever concerned that the Evernote company would suddenly “go out of business “
@AbbyOrganizes3 жыл бұрын
Great question! We are not. They are the industry standard at this point and have held steady for so long that they're not going away anytime soon. We also have multiple backups in place so that if something crazy happened and Evernote did fold, we would still have access to the digital versions of our documents even if we weren't able to get into Evernote. I hope this helps!

Going paperless is just make somebody's job easier they don't care anything about trees or whatever reason they're giving besides the fact that it's easier for them why don't you just do it stop asking people
