“For some of us, there’s just no hope” 😂😂 Hairline recession runs in my family, and that is why I have literally NEVER seen my dad’s hair in my 22 years of life. He has always shaved it bald. Him and my grandfather. I always wondered if that trait would hit me or not, don’t think it has but that’s definitely true.

@@double453 thanks for pointing that out, i left out the part where i only leave the 2 strand twist in for 4-6 weeks max. I then wear my hair out freely until the next retwist. Reason for taking the 2 strand twist out after 4-6 weeks is to avoid it being difficult to separate them ( everyone's hair is different but with my texture it starts to loc or bond together after 2-3 months being left in)

Excellent advice! During my first 5 years of being Loc'd I was very concerned about them looking neat all the time and equated neatness to re-twisting. Now 8 years in I know that neatness does not mean re-twisting. I re-twist and wash every other month, typically unless something comes up. I also don't style too often. Ladies - add some curls, push up the back with a few hair pins and you are looking cute and put together without the tension. Also, I've made the decision not to let my hair grow past a certain length. My hair type cannot take the weight.

Most black Americans don't understand that you don't need to twist your dreads over and over again. It makes your locs weak at the root and eventually it can break off. Just wash them and moisturize them. When you are first growing them you can twist to get how you want your dreads to grow. Then leave them alone once they are separated.

Want to point out to always use a carrier oil if you want to use essential oils. Essential oils like peppermint, sage, lavender etc. are to potent to be put directly on skin directly. Can cause crazy reactions. Always use a carrier oil like jojoba, coconut, argan etc.

I grew my locs for 7 years, reached my tailbone. However I recently cut my locs up to about mid back. My hairline had so much tension that I started to thin out. I would like to add I have fine curly hairs in the front and back of my head the middle is much thicker the curls are way tighter. OK I wash my hair every 2 weeks but I style my hair once a month. I detangle my hair every 2 weeks to avoid matting together. So I started oiling and greasing my scalp every 2 days. I stopped wearing a bonnet since the band slids back and cause tension and I section off the front 2 rows of locs while doing styles to release the tension. As a result my hair is growing strong again. It's been a while but I'm excited about my retwist. Wish me luck!

Exactly! People are getting these extensions left and right and the extension density doesn't match their hair density therefore causing tension.

All actual factuals!! I have one corner that is little more sensitive than my others (has been for as long as I’ve had hair), so I watch it constantly on the day to day. For those of us who get cuts, be ever mindful of that line of demarcation (not to be confused with the hairline), that can act as a barrier to your locs on the perimeter. If that goes, then it can also contribute to that thinning and recession. For the headbands and ties, I love wearing my hair up, but I don’t put it up all the time, and I change how tight or how high I place the ties as to not pull on my edges so much. (All tips learned from this channel…like, comment, share, and subscribe).

I rarely style, I hate the pulling and tugging I let my locs be free, retwist every 8 weeks. I wash as needed tho without a retwist. I know this lady every time I see her, her locs are always in a style and you can see the receding probably from all that pulling of the hair.

Good Stuff. I also think that locs shouldn't start at the edges of your hairline. The edges are the thinnest and shouldn't be pulled into a retwist. An undercut all around your locs makes it look nice and prevents the edge pulling that can cause that 2008 recession. An edge-up can make your locs look fresh again even without a retwist. Just go to a good barber.

@@msbeautifull34 I think the rules still apply to women's hair as well. I don't think every strand of hair should be incorporated into your locs. Leave out your "baby hairs" to avoid the receding hairline. Your edges have a different texture and density compared to the rest of your hair. Have your loctician use that as a guideline to determine how much hair to incorporate into your locs. When you get a fresh retwist, you can use the same loc gel to style the baby hairs. If you opt to use all of your hair in your locs, I would pay close attention to the tension applied to retwist them. Ladies have to be very careful not to cause traction alopecia.

I wear my head bald now. Every now and then I try to grow my hair a little to see how it looks and I'll keep on a hat or do rag. Just a little over a week ago I took my do rag off to show two of my coworkers my receding hairline, and how the front of my head the hair is growing slower and thinner than the rest of my head. They wondered why I'm currently bald, but I have locks on the photo on my badge. I told them I started wearing locks back in the 90s and there wasn't as much information or as many products for maintaining locks in those days, and I told them I believe that's a big part of the cause of my hairline.

I DO WAIT 2 TO 3 MONTHS OR LONGER FOR A RETWIST, CAUSE MY LOCKS LOOKS HEALTHIER WHEN I WAIT FOR IT SMILE8

my girl be tripping cuz I don't like to retwist my hair often but I been told her that constantly lining my hair and retwising it will make my hair fall out. I've had my locs for about 8/10 years. I'm 33 now when I was in my 20s I'm pretty sure my hairline was starting to recede, I did have to cut my locs off the side and back because I would pull them out while sleeping. but it's healthier now. I wait a year sometimes for a retwist. I do wash my hair and do hot oil treatments. I'm thinking about cutting my locs and starting over

The twisting of your dreads and playing in it is what makes your hair get thin and or fall out. Look at Rastafarians and see how many have a hair line vs how many don’t. But fashion dreads will always mess up your hairline and cause thinning

unpopular opinion- frizz/ new growth locs can better than a retwist (unless you got a style like barrel rolls or shum)

This is a reminder that has come just at the right time for me, ty🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽what I do, do TPLOCKS, is keep a spare bonnet/dooo rag, in coat pockets/handbags etc. I do this as I change my bags quite frequently. Plus the weather in the UK is very random & I don’t wanna get caught out. Your dreads are looking so LUSH❤️. I made my own oils, as I can’t get House of Isis or Oo Baby over here. Maybe I mixed them too strong, but they burnt my scalp pretty bad. I had forgotten that I have really sensitive scalp. So I have resorted to using the Grape-seed oil. I am a qualified Masseuse, and this is what we use as a carrier oil. I’ve not mixed it with anything though, I just use it neat and so far no problems and it is supposed to grow your hair. I do sometimes feel like a tramp as my micro locks are allover my head, but people keep giving me compliments about them😊but I know that there’s light at the end of the tunnel when I see your locs. Sending positive vibes to you, your little family & your followers. ❤️🙏🏽❤️❤️❤️🙏🏽

I have had locs for more than 35 years. God is my only beautician and She does a magnificent job. I occasionally braid and twist some new growth but never had it officially re-twisted. Never will. Have not noticed any real loss of my hairline, but in my 60's some of this is expected. I see my hair as a gift from the Creator.

Locs holds a lot of shedding hair, so the weight of the hair becomes a factor. Hydration comes from drinking infused water. Don’t put heavy products in your hair, no waxes or butters. Use light oils. Washing your hair is important. Keep your hands out your hair. Retwisting too often and too tight can be an issue as well. Castor oil for thick roots. Use satin/silk scarfs not cotton. Sun is good for locs. Ocean water is good for locs. Spinach and avocados help the hair as well. Warm water ( tea ) hydrates the body. Diet is important. Smoking can affect you too. It’s a journey, everyone’s set of locs is different. Your hair will tell a story. Snoop Good, just needs to gelacht with the retwist and wear silk/ satin lined caps.

Snoop always had a forehead. And he always had his hair pulled back in a ponytail braids and now dreads but he had it like that for almost 40 years and still got his hair at his age is great. My brothers hairlines went early and I still got mine. My hairlines back a little bit since my twenties but you can’t tell unless unless you really look. But my hairline is good right now. I was hoping to make it to 30 and I’m 32 I’m happy even if I gotta shave my shit at 35 lol
