I was a bit bamboozled with mine, lol. Her mother was AKC registered with her lineage going back several generations. Her father was Continental Kennel Club registered and his lineage went up to grandparents on one side, and just parents on the other. Well, the thing is she's bigger than a Maltese should be and her hair is wavy (like many dogs in this vid btw, so doubt they are 100% pure bred either) She weighs 13 ibs, so I got real panicky that she may have some kind of health issue, she isn't really obese, just larger than a typical Maltese should be. My vet tried to assure me she was simply out of standard but for peace of mind I ordered the wisdom panel for her and lo and behold, her paternal great grandfather was a Bichon Frise! My vet said it's not that uncommon for a another frise type dog to be introduced in the linage at some point as it strengthens the coat and health of the breed. But she definitely inherited more of that Bichon's DNA than the Maltese imo. I'm not angry about it at all. I adore her and actually like that she's not too delicate and small, She's a perfect small sized dog. I just wish they were honest about it because I really did worry and even put her on a diet briefly even though she didn't need it. I tell everyone she's a Maltichon, (cuz she is) and it easily explains her size and coat type.

My Maltese boy is purebred. I have a pedigree chart for 6 generations from the Kennel Club, and he has several show champions in the family tree. But at 6½ years old he weighs 6.2 kg, but is not overweight. He is bigger than we expected, but his proprtions are correct. His father was a very tiny Maltese, but his mother was a big girl, although both pedigree. Interestingly, at 9 -10 months of age, his tail curled and is now like a very hairy corkscrew! Even as a pedigree, he would not be accepted as a show dog because of his size, weight, curly tail, but it was never intended to show him. He was to help me with my severe, chronic depression, and he has transformed not just my life, but also my husband's. He never liked dogs and even as a child he would not let his parents small dogs near him. I wish his mother could see him now! He adores my Peanut almost as much as I do 🐶💞

I have a pure bred Maltese male. He is about a year and half old. We got him from a reputable breeder. He has papers. All that being said, he is 14 pounds. Vet says he is not fat. Much larger than what we expected.

I rescued a dog from Alabama. He fits all the criteria for a full Maltese. His dna says he is 100% Maltese however he is 11 1/2 pounds and perfectly proportioned for his weight. Can he still be pure Maltese?

My 2 almost 3 purebred beautiful Maltese from breeder now has encephalitis meningitis. It's a cruel disease. Im devastated. That is also common in small dogs.

Those dogs weighing more that 7/8 lbs ARE NOT purebred Maltese. They may be Coton de Tulear. They look exactly like Maltese only larger.

Hi yes l have 2 a boy an girl they are both white an have markings the boy his markings a tarnished brown spots an with my girl you have to look hard to see hers it's just on her ears an 2 barely can see on her back their just 4 months an now their loosing their baby teeth 😊

i thought i have a maltese dog at first, but this video said maltese are only small dogs? my maltese is bigger than a shih tzu dog, and when it was a puppy she has like a brownish color but when she became an adult her color faded and went into like a dirty white color? but looks exactly like a maltese except for the size, I don't know they said there are standard size to maltese(which are bigger size than other maltese)

maltese are pure white dogs. they can have lemon/white ears or light tan/white ears. my boy has the lemon trait but it's not really noticable. male maltese are always bigger than females majority of the time. maltese dogs are toy breeds. so the average size is 4-8lbs at adulthood especially for females(avg females are 4-6lb). boys can be either that size or on the bigger bone sized at 10lbs. he should not be bigger than a shih tzu. not having brown color. if your girl more than 10lbs thats extremely rare for a girl and most likely shes not a maltese but probably mixed with Bichon or coton tutelar. but you mention she had brown coloring especially when she was a puppy so i believe she has to mixed. perhaps shes a havanese. havanese look like maltese dogs but they have different markings. they can be white grey or white brown etc. please note that maltese dogs are brown to getting their coat stained from tear staining. so if you are meaning that then its just tear staining from the water. also did you get your records from the reputable breeder? she should be AKC/ACA certified. they tell you everything about the lineage.

Maltese should have round floppy small ears and not westie type ears. always get AKC ACA papers from your reputable breeder.

Oh yeah mines not pure bread shes "fat" like about 19 lbs previously 14 because she got her stuff tied buts whats weird her parents are "maltese". The breeder definitely hid some details from us but her brothers and sisters look more like maltese.

Maltese do NOT have short hair that curls at the end,..Seriously??? Thats if they a re clipped. Do your homework
