You say you want your videos to fill us with enthusiasm, motivation, and excitement; to be more creative, to process and make photos we love rather than seeking external validation-----mission accomplished!

❤️ thank you so much Bonnie, it can be hard to find the balance between KZbin algorithms and authenticity!!

I watched countless landscape photography channels for many years on KZbin. Once you have seen one you have seen 95% of them tbh. After a while they all look and sound the same. However, this channel is on a different level honestly. I love how we discuss emotions over technical aspects of photography whether shooting or editing. I always thought of editing as a technical process. I’m not new to photography and I learned a lot from you. Thank you very much

Thank you for that. I never set out as a professional photographer (or anything for that matter) to be the same as everyone else. What would be the point. All I want to do is bring a sense of perspective and common sense to the entire creative process.

I loved several things in this video: 1) your lava lamp (bonus that you matched it) 2) your slight edits - no need for dramatic changes 3) you used sliders and not just numbers I also agree with your comments about what I’ll call “formulaic editing” Great video! 👏🏼

Many thanks Anna, I appreciate that. The numbers beside Lightroom sliders should be removed, they serve literally no purpose.

I was chatting (in person) to another hobbyist photographer this afternoon. We got on to that subject of “validation” you know, the like or the 👍. Anyway, this guy posts so little these days and he feels so much better for it. Good video again and glad to see you’re feeling well again.

@@Alister_Benn I wonder how best to go about finding out if you’re on the right track with our images? Certainly not competition at clubs; for me anyway. I did enjoy you and Adam Gibbs giving feedback on images. Never found the courage to submit one though.

Just saw this video and have to say I enjoy your presentation and the information you provide. Regarding that deflated feeling when opening your raw files and seeing something different from what you saw in the field, I found that sometimes setting LR to default to the camera profile that matches my mirrorless helps. Maybe it's already been mentioned. Thought it might help 😊 Again, thank you for sharing.

Another insightful video with concrete, actionable suggestions to improve ones editing. WB really sets the mood the image conveys. With my landscape shots in particular, I always spend a little time thinking where I want to take the image before starting the editing process. During the editing process I may decide to make a virtual copy (clone variant in C1 which is what I use) if undecided where to take the image next. I may end up with 2 or 3 different edits. I do like how you mention that you "listen" to the image as I think that is really important. I hope to get to Scotland next year as I have never been. Forgot to mention, love the lava lamp, takes me back to my youth when they first came out.

There is an interesting relationship between thinking about where an edit may go versus letting your unconscious drive and purely exploring with feel. Either can work, yet the latter tend to be more likely to provoke a sense of surprise in ourselves.

You pretty much described the way I try to do things already. However, it's good to have the validation from someone like yourself that my process is on solid ground. I do enjoy sharing my images across different platforms for others to see as well. I try to keep my photos realistic so that the viewer sees mainly what I saw when shooting the image. Albeit with a little more color and depth. The interesting thing to me is that I generally garner a few likes for my efforts while the ones that get all the attention often times are over processed. Sometimes so much they look more like a graphic illustration or even a AI generated image. It actually kind of baffles me that people would like an unreal representation over a more true to life one. Sure, it looks cool but it's not even remotely true to life. In the end though, my photography is for me. If someone likes it then great. If not, that's okay as well. As long as I like it. Thanks.
