You did a really good presentation. Playing those lines while recording and being in the presents of the "master" was quite a feat. I am buying the book to support your young life as a musicain. I have always been a bad student but a successful jazz pianist. Somehow I learn the stuff that is necessary but always found it hard to read the notes. What I like about your approach is that, for me, the breaking down of the theory, chords, structures, etc. really help to hear the licks as opposed to trying to memorize the notes. THANKS!

Damn!!! All these people talking about how to play more melodically!! Hell!! I've been playing sax for over 50 years and have totally forgotten how to read music!! I do everything by ear, and after I'm familiar with the song, I know what I can do sponsors within the structure of the song , spontaneously and kinda like Chicago, Blood,Sweat & Tears, and Earth, Wind &Fire!! Fills, accents, solos, basically coloring the songs!! And 98% of the time, it sounds better than anything that was written to go with the music!!

don't wanna put my lineage up here in the public section ... but ... lol ... sure is a bonus to be able to monetize these platforms today. there were many before with deep knowledge in this area without a platform to share it, let alone monetize worldwide. it's comforting to know that your efforts in learning the language of music, dedicating yourself to the mastership of the craft can actually sustain you as a professional. have heard numerous tales from one of the greatest to ever do it ... of how many of his colleagues and counterparts were super talented and super broke until bald spots and grey hair. this will NOT be you. you are worthy of support and a healthy professional career in this field. kudos. play on. hopefully, bebop can break through and reach the generations present and future. respect saxlogic ... tutorial is super well done!

You have answered my critique of what I feel is the over analyzation of this very high art form at 8:18. I have achieve a modest degree of success in playing and teaching this music and boy, you have made my head spin with all of this word salad stuff. If I had to think of all of this stuff, I would not have played one note. I would have been completely discombobulated. I have noting against schools and education but I think this is, to put it mildly, a little over the top. I guess this is what many now have to do in order to pay off those student debt loans.
@Saxologic
@Saxologic Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I think it’s pretty valid of you to say that. For many, this sort of approach does not resonate. But for some, they are nerds for this sort of thing. I just put stuff out there and let people choose if they want to be receptive to it or not. I try not to stuff anything in anyone’s face.

y@@Saxologic I can totally dig where you are coming from in your reply to my post. Different strokes for different folks is quite applicable for this situation. As one of Barry Harris's earlier student's, I had to rely a lot more on my ears as he taught me his system of the application of half steps off of different intervals within the chordal structure of different tunes. The importance's of Chord substitutions with its theoretical base and why it was so important for a soloist to know about them in become a better improvisor.

My sound used to sound kinda airy on my previous saxophone (yas-300ad which I march now), but since I got a mark 7 like a week ago my sound is not as airy, but it’s a lot louder and open. Is that normal? Or should the sound be airy?
@lukasalihein

What do you like better? That's what it should be, unless you're having problems playing with that sound. Also, sometimes horns give different feedback from each other that doesn't really have much to do with how they sound from in front.
