Be nice to older experienced photographers. I met an elderly film photographer at a photo meetup. We were the only two shooting film so we started talking and bonded over the next few hours. As we were leaving, he mentioned to me that he realized years ago he would never be able to shoot all of his film. A few weeks later, we met up. He gave me a BIG box of film, knowing how much I would appreciate and would actually use it. Since then, I've passed it on. If you are willing to talk shop with me (in person) and mention how expensive film is, I will be more than happy to give you a roll or two, and on one occasion, all the rolls I had on me. Happy 📷!

I would add on top of this for AU: if you or a mate is in Melbourne, try to mainly buy film from walkens or a film photog store with similar prices: I’ve seen $25 rolls of colour plus when I poke my head into camera shops on the edges of Sydney and walkens is reliably affordable.

Well, I am late, but they have these film photo expos in London. Perhaps in other places (cities too). Mind you, I am still searching for the ones held in Brussels. Usually, at these events, booths sell film (colour, as well as black and white) for very low costs. Along with film, you can also purchase cameras and other "vintage" equipment for not much money. I'd say to anyone, wanting to buy film, in bulk and for relatively cheap, to save up and just buy a lot in one or two goes, from a film expo.

I totally agree regarding the cheaper consumer films. They can certainly produce amazing results if you are willing to test them out and discover their strengths and weaknesses. Personally I love shooting C200 in blue hour. The colours look amazing, but you will definitely need a tripod. The reciprocity failure on C200 is also really good too and better than most pro films.

Good video. I have two suggestions which I have started. 1) My first is buying a half frame. I got an Olympus Pen FT recently and I love shooting with it. It came down to getting that or a fujifilm x-pro 1. I went with film instead of the filmic look. 72 shots per roll. It frees me from being overly conservative but I still think before I shoot. I'm using Ilford delta 400, fine grain, which makes up a little for the loss in image quality. My second is shooting kodak vision3. It's much cheaper than 'regular' color film, a little more expensive than black and white. I'll also start eveloping Ecn-2 at home to save money.

I havent shoot vision 3 yet, as i am not doing home dev for colour at this stage.. and there is no lab who is doing ecn-2 in sydney :( Thanks for watching ! happy film shooting :)

Save a ton of money on shooting film by using a digital camera. I sold all my Leica M film cameras and Hasselblad’s. I still have Leica R and Nikon F cameras but no one will give me any real money for these. Still can use the lenses on my mirrorless cameras.

haha lots of people say go digital. I also shoot digital and enjoy shooting, but also i love the process of film photography. So i am trying to find happy medium between film and digital.

Moments with film photography are priceless! One will think twice before press the shutter when knows that one frame cost you like 1 usd or more ;) Digital is good for learning principles of photography but eventually boring (at least for me) with all predictability and lack of analog magic.

Great tips! It’s also good to keep an eye out in Big W and Kmart here in Aus, I’ve found heaps of ultramax and Color plus for great pricing in those stores, however they’re becoming a bit more difficult to come across.

새해 첫 지름으로 fomapan 100ft 사서 감아놓은 상태라 한동안은 문제가 없을 예정입니다만 감기걸려서 당분간은 사진을 쉬어야 할 듯 합니다ㅠ
