Agree with almost all of this (especially shoulders, YES, and texture, YES) exceeeeept cotton knitwear. I think we just need to be honest with ourselves about what we want the knitwear to do. One of my favourite pieces is a cropped brown Prada vest from the 90s - in very clean, clinical, crisp-looking ribbed knitted cotton. In summer it feels like fresh air, in winter it’s a helpful & unusual-looking extra layer. Would I wear it as central heating? No. It’s also sleeveless and loose so it’s never gonna keep much warmth in. But it sits & drapes as a layer in a way that none of my wool pieces do and has held its shape for fifteen years. And I can wash it viciously without it shrinking.

The cut is so important and varying the cuts in your clothes is so much fun. Tight t shirt with baggy pants or some straight cut trousers is so sick. Cropped pants with combat boots is also sick. Of course you got to have a uniform but damn is it fun to change up more than the color of your shirts and pants.

Know what sites do great sales (like 70% off), and use sites like eBay and Depop to find outlet sellers or random used steals. I can’t remember the last time I bought an item for even half of its value, and know most of what I buy I can easily sell on for what I paid. Hope this helps!

@karigrandii2 жыл бұрын
Also this makes you avoid the trap of ”shopping” because it’s so easy to just find what you like and buy it if you have money. It’s way more of a challenge to find it used and hunt things down or just surrender to the things avaiable.

Yes, this tip über alles! It offers a much more interesting journey through fashion and is an effective way to utterly ignore trends and shop honestly for shit you just like, especially if you mix up where and how you buy secondhand (thrift/charity, hi-end vintage, ebay, yard sales, antique shops, etc). A good secondhand store is heaven.

You should also look to se that your knit is froggable so it can make it into yarn and knit something new when you gey boared of it or give/ sell the yarn. Engineering knits had a good beginner video on how to get yarn from old swester. Disagree on your other opinions on knitting. Any natural material is fine.

Love the video, any knowledge that gives us an edge in hunting down special pieces is very welcome. I do however have to give a nod to mercerized cotton such as used in old Coogi knit sweaters, it stands up to time and the comfort is there albeit not the same as softer wools like cashmere and mohair.
