Well, 4711 is really just meant to refresh you. In Germany everyone knows it, it's called "Kölnisch Wasser" which means "Water from Cologne" or "Eau de Cologne". It is the reason why we call colognes colognes. It's super cheap so you can't really hate on the lack of longevity (bot saying you did)

I’m a Guerlain fan boy, and because the house is so old with such varied offerings I’ve figured out that Guerlain fans fully expect the variety in longevity. So the classic clean and refreshing Guerlain Imperiale is a light cologne only expected to last an hour or two. It also only costs about 36.00 bucks. So you can practically shower in it, and in the summer I keep a bottle by the front door to give myself a pick me up on hot days. Same with Guerlain Homme, which is even cheaper. A little secret though, Homme mixes well with deeper base notes, which makes it last longer. For instance, I layered Guerlain Homme tonight with Profumum Roma’s Olibanum (almost straight Frankincense). It deepened one, lightened the other and lasted a lot longer.

guerlain l'homme is good, but for better projection instead of going the intense route, try l'eau boisée. It's also a freshie, although significantly different from the edt, but it lasts!

A bit unfair to put 4711 in this list. It’s not intended for the same use as the other 4. I’ve just bought it knowing that the performance isn’t that of an edt, but will refresh me after a wet shave. You might as well put most after shave/cologne strength frags in this video! Ridiculously poor performers for me are: Acqua Di Parma Intensa - criminal performance for the price! Lalique White, Armaf Milestone (much hyped and smells lovely, but pathetic performance for an Armaf)

Invictus Aqua is super weak on me, skin scent after about 30mins. YSL L`homme doesn't perform either on me. Versace PH only lasts about 2hrs and then it's gone, I wish I could get at least 5hrs out of it because its a great frag

Boucheron Quatre pour Homme. Dior Homme Cologne. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. 4711 should not be considered an eau de toilet. It's Koln Wasser. it's from 18th Century! It's a completely different category. It's Historical and should be praised by all fragrance lovers. The fact that it is being compared to Tom Ford Neroli Portofino is indeed a compliment for Maurer & Wirtz but a blamage for Tom Ford. Which in this case they do deserve it, with those ridiculous prices.

I quite like 4711, I actually have taken it on vacation more than once (with a decant to reapply). I would be remiss in not mentioning it as a weak performer even though the fragrance itself is very nice and supremely affordable. I may touch on it again as summer comes into full swing here.

Ashton, it sucks when a good smelling just doesn't perform well on skin. I sampled most Tom Ford Private Blend collection and I have zero issues with performance. Neroli Portofino Acqua is nice to me. I get a solid 7 hours and I think it's still a tad bit weak haha. For me, Abercrombie & Fitch-First Instinct doesn't cooperate with my skin. I really love the opening so much but the scent doesn't like me back. Lacoste-Eau De Lacoste Blanc is another one that doesn't suit my skin either. The biggest disappointment would be Paco Rabanne-Invictus. Not only does it suck on me but it's been one of my worst compliments by far. Bvlgari-Aqva Amara is another bad one for me. The smell of rubber tire is such a disappointment. So far, the very few niche fragrances I own are all good to me. Zero complaints.

I officially stopped "blind buying" because it's better to sample many scents and picking the right scent that performs well on skin. Honestly, Carner Barcelona-D600 is amongst the best performance on me. I was doing some self testing on myself and D600 gives me 15 hours. I love it.

L'humaniste has an amazing smell.. for some reason the sample i had performed good.. But i wouldn't risk getting a bottle cause too many people say it doesn't last at all... maybe the sample was amped up some how.. For me YSL L'homme, versace pour homme, DG the one .. john varvatos, and spice bomb were shitty for me.. I included spice bomb for the fact that it was supposed to be a BEAST mode frag and it was under average performance for me.

I got the 800ml bottle of 4711. I bathe in it and then layer it with Molecule 01, which helps push the performance to 33 and 1/2 minutes. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

If I had to make a list I may include VIW and MI ... love them but need to spray way to much of it and still don't perform.. Bummer when that happens :( Im now on the hunt for summer beasts , Aqua Viva , Meringa and Coney Island are leading the way and looking into Aqua Sextius.

What is funny is, I used my last few drops of Guerlain Homme (bought when it was released) last week ... I sprayed like last 5 sprays, can't remember. It survived my 12 Hour shift and not only, the day after, after shower, I wore Aqua di Gio Profumo and I still could smell Guerlain ... Having said that, Dior Sauvage is shit on my skin. 5 Hours is really pushing it ... I do mean that.

Could be skin chemistry, could be that you're not picking it up but other people are, could be the environment you're in, there are lots of factors there. You can try using an unscented lotion on the spots you're going to spray the fragrance, let that soak into your skin a bit, and then spray the fragrance over top where you applied the lotion. That helps me with getting some more longevity from a fragrance.

DHS 2012 is probably my biggest heartbreaker in terms of performance. I sprayed the living shit out of my 50ml bottle last summer, almost burned through the whole thing. It was obvious that I needed to carry a decant, which I'd begun to do. Still, the longevity was just soooo poor that I just decided it wasn't worth the trouble, even though I love the scent.
