About Conqueror. It wasn't actually proper planet buster. Same as Xyston it could blow up small moons at best, but it still would severely wrack planet surface, what to be honest they already could do with regular turbo-lasers. Axial Superlaser was originally tested on Qaz SD (basically larger version of ISD), what then all mysteriously vanish after Yavin (and I personally believe they were refitted in the Xyston). Conqueror could be awkward attempt to put same weapon on smaller platform, but it probably didn't have actual combat capabilities. So one prototype theoretically could pop up at one point.

I see the Conqueror class functioning like a space going tank destroyer. A ship killer, not a planet buster. It would use the high output of it's superlaser to do in one shot what would a take a normal ISD several minutes of constant heavy turbolaser fire, overwhelming the shields of equal sized ships or or outright destroying smaller ones.

@nicholasfarrell59813 жыл бұрын
I believe it was intended to be used as a weapon of terror (if it was ever intended to be mass produced). It could crack the crust of a planet, and erase cities with ease, but I doubt it was really viable in fleet battles.
@sammywhite51273 жыл бұрын
6:10 - 6:36 I actually think it's the other way around the Conqueror at least has reduced destructive capacity compared to the Death Star (only being able to destroy small moons or single continents on larger worlds), has its design significantly reworked accommodate the weapon, and there's only one, whereas the Xyston-class is as powerful as the Death Star, the only change to the design is it is twice the size of a regular star destroyer and has a gun strapped the bottom of it, and there are thousands of them
@GintaPPE10003 жыл бұрын
The Xyston is nowhere near on the power level of the Death Star. It takes at least a minute to break a planet open while channeling its entire power supply, while the Death Star can unleash enough to destroy a planet instantly without disrupting its other systems.
@sammywhite51273 жыл бұрын
@@GintaPPE1000 yeah I'm just gonna say that I think that the extra minute it takes to destroy a planet is more than offset by the fact that there are thousands of them, and the fact that while not firing the main weapon it is almost certainly twice as strong as a regular star destroyer they are unarguably better than the Death Star in nearly every aspect, whereas the Conqueror is undeniably worse than the Death Star in every aspect besides mobility and there's only one, considering it's the same size as a regular star destroyer but has had a large proportion of its hull and weaponry removed to accommodate the weapon, it almost certainly still has the 24-hour recharge time between blasts, and it only has a small portion of the destructive output
@roguerifter97243 жыл бұрын
The Imperial-II Frigate was nuts. It was basically a Star Destroyer's fighter wing wit most of a heavy cruiser's firepower on a frigate size hull. It also required more crew then the much larger Dreadnaught class Heavy Cruiser which was known for having a very large crew for its size. And what's really absurd is its main hyperdrive. Its so slow that any other Imperial warship is at least twice as fast in hyperspace which hinders the frigate's ability to respond to a crisis in another system and if deployed in a mixed fleet the other ships have to hobble their speed to let the Imperial-II frigates keep up. I always suspected the design was the pet project of some high ranking KDY official who had more influence then intelligence and that the Imperial Starfleet didn't want them but bought some to keep KDY happy

I like the design of the Conqueror class. I think if it wasn't a planet-killer but more of a specialized "artillery"-Star Destroyer (somewhat similar to the later introduced Onager class from the Star Wars Armada miniature game) with a composite beam, ship-killer weapon, it'd fit in quite well. And non-planetkiller composite-beam weapons have been quite firmly established as Canon by now (LAAT ball turrets, B-Wing prototype from Rebels), so there's no reason such a weapon couldn't be fitted to a Star Destroyer-scale warship.

Damn good question
@dhaburuk64943 жыл бұрын
A good question. It is likely that Eck can do better given he has access to far more source-material, but I'll give it a go. 'Warning: this is going to be long-winded. The meat-bag is pulling from all lore it knows of, regardless of what is considered cannon or otherwise, and hardly supplying references at all. ' This is a tricky question to answer, since its not something that has been well defined by any author - at least as far as I'm aware. As I understand it, the Force is in all life and thus all life-forms will become 'one with the Force' when their form dies. It is unclear what happens at that point. Perhaps beings are obliterated as some Sith believed to be the case. Perhaps they are dissolved or assimilated into a different existence as the Jedi traditionally believe. Perhaps 'becoming one with the Force' is an afterlife-paradise of sorts, which has its own seemingly endless realm of possibilities. It seems to me that the Jedi have the closest interpretation of what 'one with the Force' may be, though they are obviously not to be considered the authority on the matter, as your question points out. Various beings have attachments which may hinder or prevent 'assimilation' - both Sith and Jedi have 'haunted' places, for lack of a better term. A fun detail to consider is that Mara Jade/Skywalker is implied to have deliberately left her body behind so that evidence of her murder could lead the Jedi of Luke's era to discover her killer. Who can say if that is true & possible or merely a hand-wave grade plot device of the author? Certainly food for thought. Clear examples, hmm... Lord of (over) the Sith Ajunta Pall was so attached to his sword - "I filled it with my pride" - he was seemingly bound to his tomb, until over time became bound to the location. Former Dark-Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma remained in his tomb on Rhen Var, the world he exiled himself to and lived on from somewhere in his prime until his natural death. Due to the selfish tendencies of Dark-Side Force-users, Pall was far from the only one to have strong attachments, yet very rarely are Sith found to 'resist death' as it were. Perhaps it is a matter of their personal Force power by way of a strong connection to the Force that allows them to imprint upon objects or places - an extreme legitimized by the idea of Jedi connecting with and imprinting on the focusing crystal of their Lightsabre... more than mere foot-prints, a space-magic butt-groove in the galaxy if you will allow me the simplification. This 'Force-Ghost' phenomena isn't as much of an exception to any rule as it seems. The 'living-Force' feeds back into the 'cosmic-Force'. That is to say, the Force is in all life, so if individuality is maintained while 'one with the Force' a being could logically interface with any life-form. It stands to reason that there is some semblance of difficulty or the events of the Star Wars galaxy might have been vastly different. What is clear is that Qui-Gon Jinn did not gain the ability to commune with Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi by his own efforts alone. Jinn was taught how to a degree, and guided both Yoda and Kenobi to train themselves to 'maintain consciousness' within the Force during their exiles on Dagobah and Tatooine respectively. Hopefully this answers your question. If you managed to get through that wall of text. If you did, well done!

Republic-class Star Destroyer. A Victory variant with Mon Calamari armor plating, with bugs designed out and expanded functionality thanks to the tech advancement. Produced by Rendili Star Drives to get the corporation to cooperate more with New Republic instead of looking for customers among New Republic´s enemies. Ecks often gripes about this ship, but I really like it. Thrawn´s Revenge mod for Empire at War has fantastic model for it and you can clearly see Victory I with round hull. And my favorite feature - it has better protected bridge tower than most other ships, the hull actually rises up around it to protect the connecting part with the main hull. It is almost like someone looked at it and said "It would be too much trouble to redesign the whole ship to have bridge inside the hull like a sensible warship since we are working off existing Victory I designs so I am not gonna do that. But that does not mean I am gonna leave such glaring weakness without at least some effort to mitigate it." Apparently it is unpopular design even in universe, maybe because it was smaller with same functionality so it was cramped inside? But we are never given actual reason for the dislike. Personally I think it delivers excellent utility and firepower for it´s price even if there are bigger and more powerful ships around.
