5. Winter - bond Live at the Bullring

Vivaldi's Winter by bond. They also performed this piece as Viva! on the re-release of their first album, Born. 2 more to go.
Recorded on June 6, 2009 using a Flip Video camcorder.

I watched a live version for Vivaldi's four seasons in Prague, 31th december 2009. It remembered me of Bond so much, I didn't even imagine that they would play the seasons later!

Tania took Haylie's spot as the first violinist. Elspeth now joins them. Her primary instrument is the violin, but she plays viola in Bond. This is I think, Elspeth's first public appearance with Bond. Here, she is playing on a Bridge electric violin ( I guess she tuned it to viola setting??). In later performances, you'll see that Elspeth uses Tania's violectra !!! I hope that helps !! :)

+Vanlal Hruaia Interesting reply. I guess you can re-arrange the strings on an electric. The viola is tuned exactly one diatonic fifth below the 4/4. So you loose the upper E string and pick up a lower C string. What is incredible about BOTH tania and Elsperth is that they have mastered both instruments. What I hate about the viola is that music written for it is written using the alto clef. It was a pain in learning the "up town/down town" notes for the G clef and F clef. Very few instruments live in the alto clef. So I consider it an accomplishment to play both worlds! Not sure about what violin tannia seems to have gravitated to. It looks like a yamaha which is a good student violin but no where near the quality of violectra or starfish. Vioelectra has some of the most drop dead electrical engineering in its pizeo pickups. Better than starfish but starfish has a more elegant design. Feels better than vioelectra. The vioelectra seems a bit "fat" under my chin. Its a very tall instrument. The starfish is balanced more like a P form strad albeit one with an amp plug. Unfortunately, I think Tania may be a bit better at the viola. The seasons will NEVER go out of season. It and Tucata Fugue by Bach are simply awesome and will rock the ages to the end of time!

After watching the Summer piece of this concert, it is clear that Elspeth is CLEARYLY using her Bridge electric violin, well, as an electric violin- no tuning to a viola. I know that because she was playing the second violin part which requires going up on the E-string which she produced as one would on a violin (3rd position). As far as Starfish vs Violectra is concerned, I haven't a clue since I havenet tried them (Starfish has now discontinued their electric string series). After talking with Eos once about getting a Starfish, she recommended I get a Violectra instead- she said it was better. Tania is actually using a prototype that BOND had developed with Yamaha- this later was named the EV-204 series (now discontinued by Yamaha). The protoype was used as a backup violin. Eos, during a tour did end up using it whilst her Starfish was getting fixed. I myself own an EV-204 with the same color as Tania. It has a brilliant tone bt I'm facing a little issue with the different volume levels on each string, which no amount of adjusting can fix. I'm currently begging the folks at Starfish to build me one.
