Many clubs now insist on using winter mats on fairways and optional in semi rough. So if you are in a divot you would be placing the ball on your mat.

Parkland courses in Scotland generally use mats in winter due to saturated fairways.

Glad you stated the rule 8.1 for the issue of dew. Pity all the other rules mentioned did not include the specific rule or local rule reference number.Likewise for "you'd get a penalty". Please specify if it's the general penalty (two strokes) or a one stroke penalty. In a video about clarification please provide all the information not just generalizations that could be open to misinterpretation. In addition, providing rules references encourages players to go find the rules and read them.

If you're not playing in a tournament...you're not breaking any rule. Have fun and play for enjoyment. 66 rounds this year and I have yet to get paired up with anyone who cares. However, in an official MATCH, perhaps it makes a difference.

You can ignore the rules if you choose to ignore them, but others may prefer to play the game by the rules. I’m sure others are like me and would not take satisfaction if they shot a great round with the help of ignoring the rules. Bad lie, no problem I will move it to a better lie. Ball out of bounds, no problem I will drop without a penalty stroke and on and on and then pat yourself on the back for shooting par. Go for it, but it’s not for me.

I thought this was true Regarding sand on the fringe of the green? If the sand was splashed after your ball came to rest (ie your partner played a bunker shot behind your ball and splashed sand in front of it) then you're allowed to remove the sand because you are entitled to the conditions when your ball came to rest.....
@tp03762 ай бұрын
As far as the relief from the wrong green and not combining two rules… you are required to take the relief from the wrong green and would use the nearest point , no closer procedure. You are not required to then lift and place your ball to improve your lie even if that rule is available. One move is optional and one is not, so don’t combine them in tournament play.

There is one rule I follow in winter, my friend came up with it.. If you and who ever your playing with are 100% positive your ball landed in the first cut of rough but can't find it then it's a free drop

Good luck with every letter of the rules. Your ball being in a divot or sprinkler cap is a very simple drop. Hitting 3 drives off every tee is a different story. Play ball. Have fun.

If your ball is on the green fringe and then another player subsequently hits a bunker shot that causes sand to fall between your ball and the green; can the sand be removed because the state of ground on your line has been altered?
@massspike2 ай бұрын
OK you can't remove frost (but who allows play on frost covered greens anyway)...but what about snow? It's rare but here in Ottawa you can get snow when it isn't cold enough to freeze the course and it will melt away except for shaded greens. Makes it
@SteveCarroll772 ай бұрын
You can shift snow. It’s a loose impediment. It can be temporary water too. I’d be careful about creating a pathway to the hole, though!

If you’re searching for your ball in leaves etc and you accidentally move the ball I believe no penalty as long as you replace the ball on the spot and you do not have to replace the LI?

With the drop in a plugged ball in the rough I take that you can't clean your ball though?

What if the leaves have been placed there by the course? The course I live on uses large blowers behind vehicles to move leaves off the fairway. “abnormal course conditions “

Sand isn't a loose impediment. You can remove it if it's on the green - even if your ball isn't - and you can do it in the teeing area as well.

@nationalclubgolfer not just the rule book, but the rules themselves. They should be there to make golf more fun, not penalise trivia. Why have to drop the ball then pick and place? Who have to lose stroke and distance off the tee? Someone should start from scratch and rewrite the rules with the aim of making the game more fun. I vote Steve Carroll to do it 😄
@GeezerTony2 ай бұрын
@@ianwhyld5916 Golf rules are not supposed to make the game fun. They are to make the game fair for everyone. There is a reason every "stupid" rule is written the way it is. So yes, it is a difficult, aggravating, exasperating, stupid game! Why do we even play it? Golf is not a game, it is an addiction!
@georgewilson1972 ай бұрын
In the winter the rules go into tĥe bucket. These rule boffins are nothing but a pain in the arse.. You go to play golf in the winter as a means to keeping fit. If you then play at the start of the season start playing to rules when compititions start. If you dont play compititions, agree between yourselves what to do.
