Someone else is going to lose an eye before the UFC combat this, sadly. Point deductions would work somewhat, and a glove redesign does not need to be as drastic as people may think, but a combination of those would make a huge difference. You rarely see eye pokes at amateur.

Issues like this are why over time we developed what we now today call boxing. Originally there were very few rules and you could wrestle. Then over time the rules were changed and gloves were introduced. MMA is awesome I really like it but seeing mcgregor literally running away against Diaz is more proof that really the king of combat sports is pugilism. It's truly honorable and fair.

IMO if you are the one who gives a fight ending eye poke you should take the loss. In these cases if you throw an eye poke and they cant continue the person who got poked loses the fight... it's bs. If guys knew they were going to take a loss for throwing a poke they might not throw them

Andy Foster I thought of that as well but it's better in my opinion than dudes poking without much consequence. It makes more sense to me to lose for fouling someone than to lose because somebody fouled you. If you keep a closed fist you wont have to worry about it. Maybe result it as a no contest instead?
