Rosered Homestead said that meat will only absorb whatever water they need so you can just pour off the extra. Thanks for sharing!!! I'm a newbie at freeze drying & love watching your videos.

I ALWAYS weigh the product before and after freeze drying to KNOW exactly how much water is needed for reconstitution. I love watching all of your videos....they always lead to me trying something new or making a few modifications to other things with added heat....(sriracha)

I get good deals at H.E.B. for 1/3lb 80/20 FRESH burger patties for $1 each....I freeze dry them because you can always crumble them up and use them for other things... Burger patties are the way to go for freeze drying....in my opinion

Congratulations, John. Five and half years ago ground beef was about $2.50/lb. Today, about $4/lb. You just realized about a 60% return on investment.

What a great idea to pull out an "old" packet of food to check out, even though you're dealing with crazy weather. That meat looks darn good, like it could even be made into a burger if you added in a little oil or fat. 🍔 But you can't go wrong with a Manwich, lol. 😋 In 2019, I had absolutely no idea that home freeze drying was even a possibility. I truly appreciate your adventurous pioneer spirit, sharing what you've learned along the way. Maybe you were winging it back then, but you've blazed a wonderful trail ever since, with lots of delicious recipes. 👏😄 I'm truly sorry you're dealing with stormy weather and possible power outages. Wish we could take some of that snow and moisture off your hands... it's pretty darn dry in my part of New Mexico, big snow in late October and not much since. At any rate, BE SAFE, stay warm and thank you for another terrific video! 😁👍

Thank you, I'll do my best to send any snow your way. We all survived the ice storm here with no power outages which I was worried about especially with the near zero temperatures we had. Too dad gum cold for Missouri!

A sandwich is a sandwich but a manwitch is a meal. FYI you can over hydrate any meat and just drain the excess. It will only absorb what it needs. Good stuff, thanks for sharing!

Thanks, John for your videos. I think your way of adding just the right amount of water would save nutritional value of the food, rather than pouring access water off. Not sure, I'm not a scientist. Question for you? Do you think the meat would hold together to make a patty for the grill? Thanks.

Hubby closed the shop down early and came home and said all the roads were slick. so stay warm and keep on sending us those great videos.

Oh very cool! That is so exciting! I don’t have but probably 100 items in my art bag since I’m still brand new, less than a year in freeze drying but I’m going to start eating up some of the very first things just to be sure that I’m either doing OK or could do better or where I needed to improve or if everything looks great! Yes, we got our snow today! And it is still snowing. Beautiful. Quiet and peaceful. But stay warm!

If you had someone who you were trying to convince to buy a freeze dryer, what would be the one rehydrated entree that you would serve them? Also, for bonus points, what would be the one fun / snack item that you would serve them?

Have you ever tried using an oxygen absorber in a tightly sealed package to extend the freshness of something like a steak that hasn’t been frozen or freeze dried?
@JohnInBibs
@JohnInBibs 3 күн бұрын
I have not but I googled "can you use an O2 absorber with raw food" and got this result: "While you can technically use an O2 absorber with some raw food, it's generally not recommended for most fresh, raw ingredients due to the potential for bacterial growth even in a low-oxygen environment; it's primarily designed for preserving dried or properly prepared dehydrated foods where oxygen is the main spoilage factor. " So I would not do it.
