The guys who fight in light weight would fight in 170 if there weren’t people cutting down to fight in it. A 175-165-155 class set up would help guys like Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington, Michael chandler, Kevin Lee, all guys who would best fight in a 165 class and would perform better than trying to be forced into fighting above or below their weight. Everyone would sort themselves out better

Most males (80+ percent) in fight shape will weigh between 165-185. After cutting that means the vast majority of men will be either 145ers, 155ers and... not 170ers because that's 190 pounds lean pre cut (which most males will be lighter than at 10-15 percent bf fight shape). I mean 5'10 185 pounds lean is bloodsport Van Damme build. They need a 165 pound division for the guys too big to weigh 155 after cutting but too small to weigh 190 pounds lean post cut.

Pretty much everyone in 135 would fight at 155 if they werent cutting and pretty much everyone in 155 would fight at 170 or even 185 if they werent cutting. I myself weigh 165lbs and it is a solid weight for middle weight guys, still fast and heavy hitting dudes. You almost still got the speed of a lightweight combined with more power basically. Quick moving power bomb throwers. In Muay Thai for me, this was the weight class I avoided and rather stayed one below, up to 70 kg max
