I've been using barefoot shoes for over a decade now. Amazing the choices there are today. Not very many when I first started. Soft Star was one of the first and they are still in business and if you have the $$ and want a more traditional shoe that is designed to last a lifetime, Russell Moccasin company makes them as well and they are handmade to your exact foot measurements... hence the cost. Then of course there are the modern vivobarefoot, feelgrounds, merrell, etc, etc. thanks for the review!!!

I started wearing some Amazon knock offs (barefoot) well they started breaking and went to shit after a couple months so I had a pair of hiking boots that I bought from second hand store I put them on first day and twist my ankle I have twisted my ankle again today they have a little arch I never tear my ankle in barefoot shoes never again will a I buy any shoe with a arch the only shoes I never tear my ankle is zero drop so I will be spending a good penny on some wildings barefoot shoes

Thank you for the video - really enjoyed it and found it informative. I just have one question as the reason why I was looking into barefoot shoes was to strengthen my feet and my arches, however, I noticed that you have quite flat feet - is this something that you had before using these shoes and have been strengthening since using them or was this a result from using barefoot shoes?
@themodernpast80693 жыл бұрын
Yes! I've always had quite flat feet. I took my transition very slow for this reason. Slowly started with doing some ankle and feet exercises as well as walking barefoot at my local park every now and then. I wouldn't say my feet have become more flat more flat because of the shoes, but I have definitely noticed a change in my toe spread (but that's about it) Hope this helps some how! (Hope this helps).

Hey I saw that you have flat feet. Coud you tell me how hard was the transaction for wearing barfoot shoes and did your overponate agravete more whith this kind of shoes? ps: lovely video
@themodernpast80693 жыл бұрын
I didn't find the change too difficult honestly. I started by wearing my BodyGlove toe shoes on the weekends for about a year(it doesn't have to be those shoes in particular, but the main thing is to slowly reintroduce natural toe spread and having less heel). On those weekends I'd try to stretch and expose my feet to whatever kinds of textures I could like grass, pebbles,and even cement if it looked clean enough. I think the zero drop found on most barefoot styled shoes helped with things like overpronation as well( I have no articles or studies to back this, I just personally feel like that was a big help). To sum it up, I think taking your time with the transition is the safest bet to help prevent anytype of aggravation. I hope this was helpful and thank you:)

The Xeros look cool. Are they still your favourites? I've heard they're a little more narrow than other brands. I'm also looking into Freet, they seem to have a range of hiking shoes in leather which seem durable
@themodernpast80692 жыл бұрын
Yes! They're still one of my top favourites. I've heard those reviews about them being a bit narrow (made me warry of buying them at first). But I personally find them very comfortable and not narrow at all. As of to FREET; I don't buy leather so I wouldn't be to sure if I'm honest. Hope this helped

I walk daily to stay fit and lose some weight. I'm now exploring to go the barefoot way as I do believe that's more natural and better. What's some advice you can give me as a newbie? How do I start, what exercises should I do to prepare my feet for barefoot shoes? How long will it take before I can do a 6km walk (that's the distance from home to my place of work) without getting injured?
@rashb39943 жыл бұрын
I love the golfball idea. I could just do that while sitting at the desk working. I'm already a barefoot wearer but I haven't found anything for basketball yet (that would last) other than Cons taking out the insole. So even with that I still have to massage my feet after a session. So this golfball thing is so useful. Thx!

I started 3 months ago. I got wildling shoes. They are great but the soles are already scratched, which shocked me. But i am not going back to normal shoes. I am looking for some shoes for winter or walking on long walks on rocks. I guess vibram is the best?
@themodernpast80693 жыл бұрын
Hey Petra, Vibram makes great soles and they're often collaborating with other companies to make great shoes so they are a great bet! A couple others (just in case it helps), •Xero Shoes has a warranty on most of there shoes that will cover them for a year & assures that you'll get at least 5,000 miles of use from them. •Last but not least, My most recent pair is from VIVO Barefoot, they feel like vary well constructed shoes and they've held up quite well so far, But they are on the more pricey side. (Excuse the rant, but hopefully it helped!)

@@themodernpast8069 thank you! I d like to buy the vivram sole shoes, i think you said Merell. The wildling shoes are amazingly comfortable but the quality is not the best i think. The have a nice flannel type lining, so i think they're great for the cold! I've found they'll do fine in the rain but not so well if you go splashin' in puddles (wouldn't take them in the snow because of that unfortunately).

@themodernpast80693 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul! I'd recommend having a look at the running shoes on xeroshoes.com/ , My favourite ones have come from there and they have a nice variety of them ( lighter or more breathable etc. ) . I'm not sponsored or anything, but they're one of the few brands that actually have a guarantee on their shoe soles (which is great for avid runners). Hope this helps!

@@themodernpast8069 Thank you for the answer. But what would be the advantage of Xero shoes compared to vivoBarefoot which looks really nicely designed. And which shoes for sprinting ?
@themodernpast80693 жыл бұрын
@@Planthier76 I find VivoBarefoot to fall more under a casual everyday shoe for me, Something I'd wear on a night out. The shoe canvas is very thick, and the soles are quite stiff, So I wouldn't really want to run in my Vivos. Xero shoes tend to have a very flexible sole (and upper material), which I find great for running. I believe Xero shoes also just provided shoes to the USA archery & some Swimming teams for the Olympics if I'm not mistaken. Overall, most of the shoes from Xero are made with the athlete in mind, so that being said, I would recommend Xero Shoes. As of to the Model, I think that would be more of a personal choice and just having a browse on their site (since some people live and run in very different areas)

how would this style of shoe perform for 10 hour shifts on concrete
@themodernpast80693 жыл бұрын
It depends on how used to them you are. I wear mine for work as well, which also requires me to be on my feet all day (concrete & tile) & I find them fine. Would much prefer these over something with a huge cushiony heel.

Try Whitin shoes from Amazon. They're decent and around £39. You could also pick up some well reviewed water shoes from Amazon for less than £20. They mostly tend to have wide toe boxes and zero drop and are a great place to start if You're on a budget but want to try barefoot shoes. Another entry level shoe would be a pair of Feiyue. Flexible sole with zero drop but a more standard size toe box. These can be picked up for £15 and are a steal at that price.

@The Modern Past Yes but the fact that you have flat feet means that you don't walk in proper way, your ankle is not in right position, that means if you make a lot of steps or try to run.. oh god.. you are so dead :D But don't worry .. there are some excercises to strenghten the feet.
