Just like the Sisters of Battle, the Mechanicus doesn't actually have a vow of celibacy. In the Horus Heresy, Calth had a pair of married Tech-priests who had a hard time expressing affection for one another. In Ciaphas Cain, Cain ended up having sex with a young female tech adept. Generally, though, any "children" produced by the Mechanicus are clones or vat grown hybrids. Mechanicus mating rituals are weird. Don't even get me started on Cawl who uploads the minds of both men and women into his body as advisers (not innuendo).

@@MasterOfNone2023 You know, that's not a bad idea. Considering the other animated armors they meet in the story, it wouldn't be too far of to call them something akin to Combat servitors. Though I guess Al would likely be either something similar to a servitor, without actually being one, or was accidentally turned into one. Because I can't imagine Ed turning his brother into a servitor... Wait, that'd be actually an idea... While testing their powers or whatever, Al accidentally got killed, disintegrated or something, and Ed sacrificed his arm to a powerful warp entity (maybe even the chaos gods, or possibly the Emperor?) to get his brother back, and the warp entity bound Al's soul to a nearby servitor. Or maybe something similar to the rubrics happened, with an old Set of Power Armor serving as a surrogate body.
