So glad you’re teaching real Thai and stopping the old outdated expressions that no one actually uses. So many programs teach in such an outdated form.

If you would also include a "word for word" translation it would help a lot in learning sentence structure and vocabulary.

My Thai girlfriend is trying to help me learn at least basic Thai language. Many years ago I learned both Japanese language and Spanish language without much difficulty Thai language is not easy but learning it is important. I wanted to ask about the Thai word: “ Kuhn” I see that word used often especially when watching Thai movies. Kuhn seems to be without gender ie: ka and khap I was watching ATM movie and the character Jib was referred to as “kuhn Jib’ What exactly does the word kuhn translate to English as? I asked 3 Thai friends and was given 3 different translations. One of my friends said it is a prefix as Mr. or miss. Another friend said it doesn’t mean that. I would appreciate any feedback. 🙏🏽
@famljw3095 Жыл бұрын
My limited understanding is the following: A) Kuhn means "you." (คุณ) B) Kuhn shows respect. For example, kuhn kru (คุณครู) for teacher (ครู). Also, one of my young nephews once got in trouble by his mom and kept saying kuhn maa (คุณแม่) for mother. He would normally just say maa (แม่) but he was being extra respectful by saying kuhn as well.

Very useful :) What I would propose you add/change in your teaching is that you could add normal speed when teaching phrases and sentences. You usually repeat it twice or three times anyway, so the last time you repeat it could be normal speed. Or maybe even after the video you could repeat all of them one after another (without explaining what they mean) in normal speed. This would be very helpful for those of us who struggle with normal/fast Thai talking speed, which i would guess is the vast majority of Thai learners. When speaking fast you would also drop the r in favor of l, as you do in real life.

Hi teacher! How have you been? I´ve been learning Thai language.I just love your classes.Thanks for sharing. The sentence 4./ gâw dii ná/.Could I use when someone do something good? 1.Hey! I passed /I´ve got the test. 2.Very good . Thanks! Julio Cesar From Brazil
@MrX-wg9hx3 жыл бұрын
No, " gâw dii ná " is like word " so-so ", it used when something is not so good and is not so bad (or just a little bit good). So, if you use it when someone does something nice, it's more like a criticism than a compliment.

I am afraid that if I ask someone 'how is it going?' then I wouldn't understand the likely detailed answer. I feel like I would need to know likely responses for these types of questions.

Can I ask, what is the different of ไหม and มั้ย, by the way I can understand Thai
@ThaiwithMod3 жыл бұрын
ไหม is formal written Thai but Thai don't pronounce this word as it is written, we pronounce with high tone therefore we have the second spelling -> มั้ย , and it is commonly used in casual situation such as writing in social media or text to friends.

i love these videos, but I sent my Thai girlfriend a text with "bpen ngai baang, krap" and she asked why I called her a chicken. She is not from Bangkok, so I am not sure if that is a difference.
@ThaiwithMod Жыл бұрын
Sawatdii ka Khun Jon, thank you for your message. Perhaps your girlfriend misread the word "ngai". The word chicken in Thai is "ไก่ gai". Bpen Gai = you are a chicken. Thai people are not familiar with reading Thai written in English transliteration. :)

I have a funny childish idea : you can film a video about different types of balls in Thai. (I mean a table tennis ball, cricket ball, golf ball, shuttlecock etc). Write me, please, if you like or don't like this idea.
