In the event of a cataclysm, this is where I want to be, these are the guys who will rebuild without all the computers and tech, it may not be micron perfect like today's machines can do but their stuff works and will get the job done.

Wondering about those welds... I'm certainly not an expert or even much more than a practiced amateur but man, those welds for that thickness of plate??? It must stick together, obviously this isn't their first rodeo but I'm incredibly surprised! All that being said, my hat is off to these men and boys who work incredibly hard and are so resourceful!

I wouldn't call it welding, I would call it tacking. Welding this thickness requires pre machined grooves and pre heat before hand. Don't forget the non-use of torque wrenches. I guess a crescent wrench and breaker bar is good enough. 😂😂😂😂

For metal that thick dont you need to bevel the edges on both pieces of metal in order to get deep penetrating welds?

Did you see the 1.5" grinding disc they were still using 😂 To me it looks like they beveled only the absolutely necessary parts with the gas torch, understandable because those cuts take up a lot of time Tbh I dont know why theyre even welding these, they're basic cast parts, maybe because they just have so much ship steel

Normally I watch 10secs of these type of vids and move on. This one was good. Well done this time. A solid, servicable box. Remember-the box does not need to accurate--only the bearings count. Made at a fraction the cost of a one off casting, even in that part of the world. For once--impressed--good job. All the best (But please get a better welding helmet--I can ignore the safety sandals, but not the lack of a helmet)

@игорьмихайлов-х2л

Obviously, these are not the first such gearboxes they have built, the gearboxes will be run until they fail or replaced, better to be self sufficient than tied to expensive imports, how many families does that workshop support.
