You can pop that shifter cover off and spray brake or carb cleaner, or get some bike spray, and spray it out, it's gumed up from the stock grease, and shoot some wd 40 in it, i could be wrong, I would always clean them out when I worked at the bike shop.

I just bought a Hard rock for $50 but it's a 26er with v brakes and a free wheel sucks for me anyway I love the bike it handles great and surprisingly it's really fast ( for a 26er) still on the hunt for a used 29er that's not like $600

If I remember correctly, the 2016 model was the last year of the Hardrock. Dislike what they've done to the Rockhoppers. Jack the price and put cheap parts on them. The model you have: change the forks, upgrade it to a 1x10 and go to town. Would even change the headset to accept a tapered. Get them cheap, crank them up on a trail...

I couldn't believe that I got this bike for 50 bucks. I am just going to fix the few issues and either keep it around for my friends to use or sell it.
@edgarr23334 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe how would you upgrade to a tapered?
@timfetters51154 жыл бұрын
That’s what I did to my Hardrock. Don’t believe you can upgrade it to tapered headset. I researched that quite a bit. On some bikes you can but this one won’t have it. I upgraded to a Manitou Markhor with 100 mm travel. Turned it into a completely different bike. Built a couple of 30 mm wide rims and converted to tubeless 2.35 control tires, 1x11 Box 2 groupset, wider bars, shorter stem, bigger brake rotors and some nice new pads. It’s now light, fast, and stops great. I was patient and looked for good deals on the parts, replacing worn out parts first of course. So I ended up putting slightly more into the bike than I originally paid for it but I’m ok with that. New bikes have been hard to come by this year. Outside of its dated geometry this bike is really pretty perfect. I ride it all the time and I don’t go easy on it.

If you are going to keep the bike long term it might be worth it. Just know that if you plan on selling it you won't be able to get back what you spent on upgrades. I've experienced it before. People will say its still just an old bike with some upgrades and then offer you barely anything for it.

I own the exact same blue hardrock, was my first bike i took on a trail. Had fun times with it too.Honestly do you think they are worth upgrading and ride on a reg? And what was the melodic instrumental during the opening of your ride.
@OLKIEMTB4 жыл бұрын
I think minor upgrades are worth it. I upgraded the tires, grips, and pedals. Honestly, anything beyond that isn't worth it if you ask me. Some people get really caught up in upgrading entry level bikes but when they go to sell it they don't get out what they put into it. The song is called camp fire by junior state.

@@OLKIEMTB if I had an Entry-level bike upgraded when I move onto a new one, I wouldn't be selling it, rather getting a friend into the hobby.
