That will have to be something to add to the video. If she sees the funeral then it will show that yes it was traumatic but she was there to mourn him. Love this ending I remember thinking before watching this movie "Oh I bet she gets her memory back in the end some how" but I am so glad they didn't go down that obvious route and went with a more believable ending which speaks to alot of couple where if one of them has a disability it doesn't matter because you love each other and you work through the it together.
@EthanCruise7 жыл бұрын
Precisely. So glad she didn't get it back, though they kinda hinted at it a bit. Remember, she didn't know who he was, but she draws him... and she sings on happy days. So in a sense, her memory is there, but it will never fully heal, but the connection is everything!

Who, thinking that they are at 24, want wake up and be a grandmother? What about Henry? You’re 24 and your husband’s half bald and fat. Trouble won’t melt like lemon drops here. Look this way: a teenage mother who got pregnant for the first time with a boyfriend who rather forget about it and move on (bc he clearly did it for experiment) vs. An adult with amnesia but with loving man who is her husband. Obviously the 2nd option more is bearable and also romantic.

People keep forgetting that when they got back together after she destroyed her diary and broke up with him she kept dreaming and painting him. She remembers him subconsciously and I'm sure by this point her body is comfortable enough around him to trust him. Remember she kept singing that beach boys song? It's not 100% that she is better but I'm willing to bet it gets a tad easier each day and she may not remember giving birth but her body and subconscious would...plus that whole mother instinct doesn't just go away.......when she rewatches the tape I'm willing to bet certain momentous moments like that just feel "right" to her at this point.

As other people have said. this scene really is passionate it and magical. In my opinion you can see why starting at 1:15 of the scene: 1. You can tell Adam Sandler's character voice at the end of the video he truly loves Lucy. 2. the reaction of Drew Berrymore's character when she notices where she is, "holy shit" but "amazed" at the same time. 3. you can tell by her character's look she has that reaction every day she looks out that window and sees where she is. 4. Not to mention if you look at the dad and see that he's aged you can see how time has passed 5. connecting all these four things together is the song. That goes along with her feeling at that moment.

Yeah, I like how the scene right before this is her kissing him at the hospital and then a bright flash and she wakes up - like the whole movie was her dreaming it all over again. So when she wakes up she must think "wow what an intense dream" then the video shows it wasn't a dream - it's real life! That's why there is no hesitation for the kiss to Henry when she steps outside and picking up her kid. The brain is an amazing thing and finds ways to adapt.

It’s amazing how it took no less than two minutes to set her day up 😀

We don't know that. I got the impression they skipped some stuff that would be a repeat for us. She's also a player in her own life, and can set up what's on the tape that she needs for the start of the next day, with other stuff on other tapes.

Say what you want about Sandler films, but you have to give credit where it's due. This ending was one you will keep in your long term memory.

Is there a full version of the song at 0:30 ? I know it’s wouldn’t it be nice, but I mean the slow piano version, was it made specifically for this film? Just that little part?

i too was searching in the comments for that piano part, but it seems like that little snippet is the only version of it that exists

One part of this movie gives this ending a large chunk of it's context: During her time at the mental hospital she would draw and do paintings, with many of them with the face of the man who went on the "50 first dates" with her. She didn't know who the man was, but gave the implication that something during that time did stick with her.
