'A bolt from the blue' is used in this context that: a blue sky means a clear sky which doen't have any cloud. So in this situation a bolt or a thunder is unexpected. Hence the usage comes as: 'a bolt from the blue'.... meaning: a sudden or an unexpected thing .....

sir I have drawn a blank in my first attempt of ssc chsl xm2018 as I could score mere 117 ...n this vocabulary section is a chill to the heart for me. .. I don't want to cry over the spilt milk and want to carve out a niche by cracking the upcoming exams and by looking at the pattern of this ssc xm I hv come to light that vocabulary section is an indispensable one ...plz upload more videos like this on one word substitution and syno anto as well. .this video was really entertaining

Me and my friend were on the same page on our salad days , we didn't knew beans about government exams , but we improved it wasn't a plain sailing . our decision to go for government exams was bolt from blue .it was became apple of discord between us ,but he decided to break the ice and then we sort it out . we found ourselves in horns of dilemma between ssc and upsc .
