I really love all of these paintings. You have an ability to capture the light and vibrant color without making your paintings overly saturated. And you have an ability to capture everyday objects or everyday moments and make them feel special. And then the fact that you did these on an extreme time crunch when moving your studio is just over the top. Thanks for sharing with us the ways that you talked yourself through the moments of self-doubt.

So you mastered a real painting - marathon with an amazing result! Congratulations! This fifty-paintings -in -fifty- days thing reminds me of Edward B.Gordon, an British-German, Berlin-based painter, who paints- alongside his usual artist work- one small (15x15 centimeters) image a day and sells it via auction on his homepage with great success. It was so neat to see them all together. You are really good at capturing lighting and how it turns simple magic into cinematic magic. Like you said, everything you see has pure beauty in it somehow. an abandoned toilet at the edge of someone's driveway could have beauty in it if you look at it right. You are such a nice gentle spirit. These pieces do certainly tell a story together. They tell the story of you in San Francisco with your cat and on your walks and the food that your body digests. very nice. perhaps i should sand the gesso. i have a canvas with gesso on it and acrylics i still haven't opened lol.

Super inspirational. Each one was like a little gem. Did you know about the grid layout before you arrive at the gallery? Were you able to design your layout at home before you arrive? Very enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing the process! I love the very intimate and warm feel of the 50 paintings! They reflect the variety of your style, many very Edward Hopper'ish (beautiful!) are wonderful, esp the nocturne ones, very good job. I like your Van gogh'ish boots too! The collection really shows the various masters' influence in your style, and reminds us of how important it is to "study" the painters that we love! Again, thank you for showing your intimate thinking process, it is a lovely collection of work, I'm sure you're very proud! (quick question on the MDF boards - did you use strictly acrylic gesso, if so, how many layers? I have heard that you have to put down at least 2-3 layers, and on both sides of the boards to prevent from warping, also heard that anything less than 2 layers will lead to the oil in the paint to "sink", and the finish would end up looking flat without the luster. I guess the varnish later would help.) I'm thinking of switching over day to day quick paintings to MDF, since it is so much cheaper, but would love your feedback on the prep process and finish quality. Thanks again for a wonderful video!
@christinakentart Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes, I love studying the old masters and connecting with their work ❤ For the panels, I used 3 layers of gesso but only did one side. I didn't have any issues with warping though. Maybe they will over time? But the panels were small and pretty thick (about 1/4 inch). I imagine warping is a bigger issue if you're working larger. I just used these because the gallery provided them, but my go-to is usually Ampersand Gessobord. It's expensive, but it allows me to dive straight into painting :) Good luck with yours!
@fsun655 Жыл бұрын
@@christinakentart I love ampersand gessobords too, but find them too "slippery" for plein air or alla prima, I use them for indirect painting. I find that I need decent tooth for plein air or alla prima, thus a rough gesso is preferable for me (but maybe I'm not doing it right).
@christinakentart Жыл бұрын
@@fsun655 yeah I’ve had that issue with them, especially when I using transparent dark paint. My solution is to use pretty thick paint and soft synthetic brushes. Do you buy panels with rough gesso, or do you do it yourself?
@fsun655 Жыл бұрын
@@christinakentart Oh man, I'm all over the place with my support. For plein air, it can range from cheapo cut mat board (with 2-3 layers of gesso), to misc types of cotton or linen primed panels, from no name brand to Centurion to Raymar. Lately, I am trying out mdf boards. I spend more money on support for indirect studio work. I am not a good plein air painter, more a studio painter, so I don't want to spend a bunch when I'm out and about, still figuring out the best approach. Vicious cycle, right? Hah! I'm in the bay area too, hope to see you out and about one day, live.
