As far as I know "To eat out" means to have a meal at a restaurant only. - Not to eat outside home. And there's no need of preposition "THE".

Thanks for your comment! "Eat out" does generally mean having a meal at a restaurant, so you're right about that. But it's also used casually to mean eating away from home. As for the preposition "the," it's a stylistic choice. I appreciate your input! 😊
