My home got broken into when they kicked the steel front door in - door was fine but the wood frame splintered like kindling in one kick. Thieves do this because one or two loud sounds in a city doesn't attract attention vs the sound of breaking glass. The security company advised an outward opening wrought iron security storm door with mounting screws only available to locksmiths and an 'Alarm' sign. It's much harder to pull a door open than kick it in.

I have several, just need to put higher quality rechargeable batteris in them, cause the ones that they come with, are crap most of the time. I also have a couple of solar lights that have a long electrical cable that connects to the solar panel. Makes it easy to put the panel high up in a good sunny spot and the light inside. The don't go with 18 volt for a chain saw is wrong. Been using an 18 volt Ryobi chainsaw at the farm for a few years now and it works great. Also there are about 100 other tools that use the batteries. Will it chop down a red wood, no. But for what most people would need it for, it does the job. Also make sure to pick up 5 or 6 extra chains. They do go bad.

I have Brand New Spare parts for my Car too so when it's time to change them, I can in the event it takes years for society to make it's comeback. Spare Tires, Air Pumps, everything. I want to work on a Drill Press kit to be able to craft ammunition myself and reuse Metal. (I need to learn how to smelt properly) I've taken 2 years of Automechanic School so I can take my car apart on a whim and replace the Transmission and Engine if the need arises. If anyone has any suggestions, please do suggest. Working on having the proper Sun filtering material to hang over my Garden so my Vegetables have the best chances for optimal growth (where I live, the sun can get INTENSE in at least a month or two of Summer) and now started working on safe practices when it comes to canning. Love you Nate! However do the math on growing calories or hunting for calories. It is abysmal. Need to raise livestock but not any livestock. Rabbits and only rabbits can save people from starvation. The highest calorie crop is Potatoes. Commercially grown potatoes on an Acre is enough calories to feed 27 people but cut that by 75% for homesteaders without fertilizer or pesticides. So 8 people and how many people have an acre to cultivate by hand?! With just 3 rabbits you can get 300lbs+ in healthy protein in the first year and the growth is exponential. Only limitation is cages. Forage for feed. Easiest and only true Apocalypse protein. Rabbits require very little space. Their poop and piss is STEROIDS for gardens plus they provide unlimited Fur. Unbelievably powerful and few people know about it.

And as for relying on service-based security cameras when the grid's down? Forget it. In a scenario where only the basics matter, those cameras won't be worth a dime. People will be resorting to good old-fashioned methods to defend and upkeep their homes, mark my words. In the aftermath of a nuclear war, the devastation would not just be physical but would plunge survivors into a world where life as we know it would cease to exist.

Nice if you have a gigantic bank account, property well outside of a populated place, tools, etc. For proper solar you need a football field's worth of panels and huge storage battery supply. Oh and a couple spare 'generators' for that. What good will all that prepping be when radiation kills you down the road? Or when the cops come with tanks to burst into your home and steal all your preps. Just do what Nate used to say - enjoy what time you have left....

@crazysquirrel9425 3 ай бұрын
@@Hibiscus123 That is the theory anyway. No heat, no electricity due to emp destroying the grid, no fossil fuels due to Biden's incompetence, NO FOOD. One would need at least 27 years worth of supplies for each person in their house plus 20% extra. This includes air purification items, source of power, medicine, medical and other trade equipment, ways to defend from others, long list. Unlikely there will be a nuclear winter as everyone on all sides would perish. Assured mutual destruction is fine between 2 countries but not most of the world. You might be able to make your own Baghdad battery.... But it surely would not power anything useful. So, enjoy what you have for now. Tomorrow is no guarantee. Fun fact: look up the year without a summer.

😂...... 1/2" drill bit, saw zaw, hole beside the lock and deadbolt and you're in. Those "steel" doors are only thin shell stamped skins glued to a foam center. That door aint stopping shit! Its the tool on the other side of that door taking the safety off thats gonna end that threat. You lost that one! Average doors just keep honest people honest. You want something 1/4" thick on both skins and use some of that concrete you're so happy about. The more hinges the better. And i mean actual heavy duty hinges welded to those 1/4" skins. That door aint smack unless its installed in a reinforced opening, and that opening aint smack unless its in a reinforced wall.

When I did the construction work you take all the screws out of the door hinges replace them with 3 1/2 to 4 in deck screws the door jamb metal locks put 3 1/2 inch screws in them too anywhere you need big thick screws stick them there that way it keeps people out and it makes a door or whatever else stronger😊

A couple things I would change. #1, get an "Old fashioned" Thermometer. One with the red liquid inside or something like it. Eventually those electric ones are going to either break or the batteries will die. #2, get a gas powered chainsaw. Yes the electric will work, but you need solar panels, and the battery doesn't last that long. It will take a long time to charge, and it can quickly die. A gas powered one can be run on a modified mix of homemade alcohol, which if you look into it, isn't that hard to make. #3. Not an item, just some advice on the welding area. Stick is the way to go in SHTF. No gasses needed, and theres no super complex machine that feeds you wire. So the things you'd want are: A small stick welder if you don't have one, PLENTY of welding sticks varying in size, a manual welding mask (Non-electric, because batteries will die and they are non-rechargeable), a welding hammer, and a wire brush. A blow torch would come in handy as well

Lots of this stuff you can find cheap or free on your local marketplace. Me and my husband have trailers full of supplies stashed around our small town. We got two extra wood burning stoves for less than $100 each. One was brand new never installed and it’s big enough for a 200sqft house! It’s huge. We also got a duplicate of our current wood burning stove that we have in our home that has heated our home for 16 years!!! Nothing beats a good wood burner! If you get one learn the skill of dampening the flame down at night to slow burn your wood. We get our fire going then stuff the wood box and turn it down to a slow burn , it lasts until about 4am that way.
