Omg grrr 4 YEARS AGO 😢 I absolutely adore you guys, I'm just gonna pretend that this is a newer video & you are still around 😊 and alone or not I'm building this deck on my 85 Chevy g20 van! Thank you so much

I've seen a few roof deck ideas but by far yours is the easiest and quick cheap good cool one suggestion - can you lower the volume of your BGM when you edit the video?
@TXEROXT2 жыл бұрын
💯% agree!!! BGM is like garlic! - Just because you like it doesnt mean everyone else does and some of us have significant hearing issues that make the BGM drown out the talking. 😉

So, the only thing connecting the deck to the roof is the center rack, correct? This is awesome. I'm getting a van tomorrow to convert, and a roof deck is my top priority.

Yep that's correct!! Exciting! Good luck on your renovation. Our deck was our favorite part of ours

Very nice diy project. I have made some pallet-wood projects and did not regret it. Keep on!!!

Does it make any noise at highway speeds?

Should have a rubber seal between the wood and the roof body
@TXEROXT2 жыл бұрын
A MOST helpful tip!!! 👍👍 People don't always realize how much wood can expand and contract with the changes in temperature!

Has it ripped off in high winds yet and whats the gas mileage difference? I've seen 100s of these videos and nobody is answering those questions... I've heard stories about decks like this eventually coming apart on the highway...

I'm building one on a 2001 Suburban and will report back

@@TheAdrienneMayAwesome! I ended up making one out of solid plywood and 2x3s and then attached it to the roof racks with U-bolts. It's really solid, holds my weight and then some, hasn't come apart and doesn't seem to affect the gas mileage at all! Oh and it keeps the sun off the roof and keeps the van at least 10 degrees cooler! 👍

I don't think is very secured. I would use 3-4 racks. You basically have it connected just one roof rack. When you drive, the force of the draft/wind can break that rack and lose the deck and kill someone driving behind you. Very unstable, and very dangerous. I would say 4 very secured racks at least..

Do you know what the wood was treated with to water proof it?

Are the two end support ledges bolted to the roof or is it just the middle one that’s bolted to the roof?
@godtheater2 жыл бұрын
I have the same question
@VT-vy9jv3 жыл бұрын
3:38 it looks like you had some steel corners? Also are you ever concerned about having only one center support? Thanks !

Bet ya $50 that deck has ripped off the roof by this point. 🤪
@designlife4living5472 жыл бұрын
Seriously peeps! Make sure you have aome means of bolting the deck at all four corners, as well as in the middle.

That's what I was wondering as I'm hoping to build out my roof with both solar and roof decking. Any stats on this? How to avoid "lift" vs < MPG
